The Best Compliments To Give That You Haven’t Thought Of
Giving a simple compliment can be enough to radically change a persons day. It can be easy to give any old compliment, but it’s nice to give well meaning, heart felt compliments. Here’s a guide to some of the best compliments you can give someone. Now get out there and brighten someones day!
Compliments.
We never think twice about them. Be it with among our friends and sometimes even within our family, we never hand out compliments. But why don’t we?
Simple.
It could start with something as simple as a ‘Thank you’. Those two words sum up a lot of things, but they could also start a whole new sentence. “Thank you for being you,” or “Thank you for being in my life,” shows how much someone’s existence means to you. It could also show how much appreciation you have for the person, and the way they are.
The little things.
The other day I told the person at the till, “You scan groceries like a ninja,” because she was so efficient. People never seem to acknowledge the little things that get done for them. Having that little bit of encouragement and praise would make someone’s day a little bit brighter. They might have had a long day at work and your words might have added a tiny spark to it.
Just a reminder.
Occasionally, I receive texts from my friends telling me ‘we appreciate your effort and hard work’, and that means a lot to me. Other days, I get food dropped on my table in school. Yes, food can be a compliment too. It can be one of the best compliments. It’s trying to say ‘Please don’t starve yourself,’ or ‘You work too hard, you forget to eat. Here’s something for you,’.
Hugs.
Compliments don’t have to necessarily come in word form. Hugs are another form of expressing love and appreciation. “You deserve a hug,” followed by a hug is always a good way to make someone’s day better.
Speak up.
People underestimate the power of words to boost confidence, make a person’s day better or even change a person’s perspective on their lives and themselves. Out shopping with a friend and see something that might look good on them? Tell them. Have a friend who’s feeling defeated and unmotivated? Tell them all the reasons why they’re a strong person and can get through any adversity. Have someone you know who just got dumped? Don’t let them feel helpless. Instead tell them how beautiful of a person they are inside and out.
Compliments might seem simple. Yet they’ve been forgotten. Add the habit of complimenting your friends and family around you about the little things they do well and their best qualities. Sooner or later it’ll become second nature.
We need to know how important words of affirmation are to people even if they don’t ask for it. Start writing little notes to people with your compliment. It will definitely be an unexpected and very thoughtful gift to show the people around you that you care about them.
Just make sure that it’s genuine.
