1. Blackpool Beach

Blackpool is one of the most notorious towns in the UK with a large beach extending as far as the eye can see, luckily for you, it’s only an hour away from Manchester and has direct public transport links. With the iconic and beautiful landmark Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and plenty of fish and chips stop offs, Blackpool has become one of the most popular coastal towns in the west of England.

Tourists flock here every summer when it is the best time to go as there is plenty of open space to satisfy your tanning and sunbathing needs. You can even go on a donkey ride! There’s something for every type of tourist here and the beautiful shape of the extending shoreline boasts excellent opportunities for photographs and making memories. Blackpool is accessible from Manchester Victoria train station with a frequent Northern service running all day that takes an hour there and an hour back, making it an easily accessible place to visit if you’re looking to escape to the closest beach to Manchester. 2. Crosby Beach

When you think of Liverpool, you automatically think of the infamous River Mersey, Liverpool’s shopping centres and surrounding museums that delve into the city’s history and culture. However, Liverpool has hidden areas just north of the city where stunning coastlines sit with hidden sandy beaches. Crosby beach extends an enormous two and a half miles and stretches up the northwestern coastline.

With beautiful views of the sunset, it’s no wonder that Crosby Beach has become one of the highest rated beaches near Manchester according to Tripadvisor. With plenty of pathways to walk and sand dunes to admire, there’s something for everybody whether you want to explore or relax, Crosby Beach has it! It holds the famous statue that is buried in the sand, so you can see how far in or out the tide is and is a beautiful sculpture to add something interesting to the beach. Crosby Beach is not so far from Southport train station, which has a direct link with Northern train services in and out of Manchester Victoria train station.

3. New Brighton Beach

Another hidden gem just north of the River Mersey is New Brighton Beach which is located in the north-west corner of the Wirral peninsula. It offers a beautiful stretch of sandy beach which extends for just under a mile. There are plenty of photo opportunities with striking views of Liverpool’s city skyline just south of the beach and there plenty of eateries around for ice cream and fish and trips.

The Perch Rock fort is a popular tourist attraction which is a sea defence system that has been in place since the 19th century, offering something historical compared to the rest of the North West beaches. Another attraction is Perch Rock Lighthouse, which also sits at the end of the stunning stretch of beach. This beach is suitable for all tourists and has plenty of space to sunbathe and grass to sit overlooking the sea. New Brighton Beach is accessible via Liverpool being located just north of the city with local bus services, so you can hop in and out of the city sightseeing!
