The 2000s Throwback Songs That Will Leave You Feeling Nostalgic

If you were born anywhere between 1980 and 2000, then you are most certainly a millennial, and you’ll of course feel nostalgic when someone mentions the early 2000s. The early 2000s were a glorious time. We were coming out the back of the 90s, we witnessed the new millennium, we saw technology grow at a rapid pace, and we were blessed with some of the greatest music and entertainment of a generation.

If you’re in your twenties or thirties today, you’ll of course remember these iconic hits from the early 2000s, when RnB was where it was at, when we sang to artists such as Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Evanescence, James Blunt and many, many more. To really point you down memory lane, we’ve compiled a list of early 2000s songs that are sure to leave you feeling super nostalgic and wanting to sing along once again.

1. Pon De Replay by Rihanna

Before Bitch Better Have My Money, S&M, Umbrella and Only Girl, Rihanna released the original version of Pon De Replay in 2005. The song immediately captured our hearts, and we can safely say this is the track that put Rihanna on the map. With the catchy beat and danceable tune, we were all hoping one day we would be in a club asking the DJ to turn the music up!

2. Leave (Get Out) by JoJo

If you were suffering from a high school or middle school heartbreak, then JoJo’s debut single Leave (Get Out) from 2003 was probably your go-to anthem. At the time of release, JoJo was only 14 years old – and yet the song deals with her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend!

We can only wonder who hurt poor JoJo so badly as a young girl to ignite such pain and emotion in her first song. Regardless, it’s an anthem that had us feeling empowered and independent from those deceitful boys!

3. Sk8ter Boi by Avril Lavigne

He was a boy, she was a girl, can we make it anymore obvious? This was one of the first pop punk anthems that became a megahit in the 2000s, and we were dancing on our beds rocking out to this hard-hitting tune. Avril Lavigne’s Sk8ter Boi was released in 2002, and soon everyone was screaming out about this skater boy and how he wasn’t good enough for her!

4. Beautiful Soul by Jesse McCartney

Okay, this has got to be one of our all-time favourite 2000s throwbacks. Some call Jesse McCartney a one hit wonder, but regardless, we’re sure you’ll agree with us when we say that all the girls of the 2000s were hoping to become the lady of the Beautiful Soul singer.

Released in 2004, this song captured the hearts of millions of girls everywhere, and so an iconic pick up line was also born. So no, we don’t want another pretty face, or just anyone to hold, but we do want you and your beautiful soul.

5. Suga Suga by Baby Bash

We all dreamed of being the ‘suga’ that ‘got so fly’ when we heard Baby Bash’s hit song Suga Suga from 2003. Nothing but a sweet hook and a gorgeous guitar, this danceable tune is so easy to fall in love with all over again.

6. Independent Women by Destiny’s Child

Ah, the epitome of all female empowerment tracks of the 2000s. Originally a feature song for the 2001 film adaptation of Charlie’s Angels starring Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz, this song had us getting up on tables claiming our independence over everything. Go ahead, dance on that table on once again, we’re here to cheer you on!

7. Don’t Phunk With My Heart by The Black Eyed Peas

Before The Black Eyed Peas’s megahits such as I Gotta Feeling and Boom Boom Pow, there were glorious tracks such as Don’t Phunk With My Heart from 2005. And in the early 2000s, The Black Eyed Peas were well known for producing danceable beats that got us all out on the dance floor. This one was a lesser known one, but still making us feeling nostalgic all the same.

8. Toxic by Britney Spears

Really, no 2000s throwbacks list can be complete without a Britney Spears classic. And of course, we had to pick the iconic Toxic, the megahit from 2003 that has left an imprint on us as well as the current generation. A danceable beat and a song that leaves us all thinking about a simpler time, we absolutely adore Britney and this golden tune.

And these are just some of our favourite songs from the early 2000s, there are just too many to list! What is your absolute favourite 2000s song? Let us know in the comments down below!
