We can only wonder who hurt poor JoJo so badly as a young girl to ignite such pain and emotion in her first song. Regardless, it’s an anthem that had us feeling empowered and independent from those deceitful boys!

3. Sk8ter Boi by Avril Lavigne

He was a boy, she was a girl, can we make it anymore obvious? This was one of the first pop punk anthems that became a megahit in the 2000s, and we were dancing on our beds rocking out to this hard-hitting tune. Avril Lavigne’s Sk8ter Boi was released in 2002, and soon everyone was screaming out about this skater boy and how he wasn’t good enough for her!
