Summer Struggles We All Forget About When We’re Cold

We all know how it goes. Winter arrives and suddenly everyone’s wishing for summer again. Even those of us who prefer the winter months over the summer ones, give us a couple of weeks of freezing cold winds, nights where no matter how hard you try you just can’t see to warm up, and early mornings having to get out of bed to face the freezing cold and we’ll have had enough too. But, this summer nostalgia is just that, nostalgia. We all forget about the summer struggles we’ve just been through, everything that made us pray for winter. Now that summer is on it’s way, here is a little reminder of the summer struggles we all forget about when we’re cold.

1. Trying to sleep

Now don’t get me wrong, during the summer it does tend to cool down at night. But not enough. Trying to sleep during the summer is one of the biggest summer struggles, especially here in the UK. For the majority of countries out there who are used to the heat, chances are you have air con built into your homes, making sleeping a hell of a lot easier. Not us Brits. The weather here is abysmal at best the majority of the year, so they’re just not necessary, but when summer rolls around, boy do we wish we had them!

2. Waking up in your own sweat

Once you do finally get to sleep, most likely with the aid of a cheap desktop fan, the next of our summer struggles rears its ugly head. Waking up (probably a few short hours later) in a pool of your own sweat. Just try and remember how great that feels!

3. Sunburn

During the winter we all long to be able to lay outside in the sun, getting a nice golden tan. But one of the summer struggles we all forget about is sunburn. This can be especially horrific if you’re a pale Brit. Any patch of skin that isn’t doused in sun cream is automatically red raw as soon as you dare to step outside.

4. Wasps

Now, wasps and bees may seem like very similar creatures, but don’t be fooled. Very different. We know you’ve all forgotten the summer struggles and the terror that washes through you when you’re sitting in bed finally cool and relaxed and you hear the buzzing. You PRAY for it to be a bee, but it never is. And let’s not forget it’s virtually impossible to drink out of a can in the summer without fear of there being one lurking inside!

5. The pressure to have fun

One of the biggest summer struggles is the pressure you feel there is for you to always be having fun. In the winter no one gives it a second thought if you spend an entire week wrapped up in your duvet on your sofa, watching TV. But in the summer, if you even hint at having a day staying in, everyone thinks you’re crazy! “Why don’t you go outside, it’s such a lovely day!”. Some of us are already bright red and have started twitching at anything that sounds remotely like buzzing Karen, OKAY!

6. Sweat

Now, I know we’ve already mentioned waking up sweaty, but let’s be honest. Summer struggles are more than just waking up sweaty. In the summer you sweat all. The. Time. Wearing anything grey becomes virtually impossible, unless you want everyone to find out about every part of your body that is sweating. You produce sweat in places you didn’t even know you could. Boob sweat, butt sweat, the inside of your elbows. EVERYWHERE. And don’t even get us started on chub rub (the sweating/rubbing of your thighs! It’s the WORST).

Now you’ve heard our summer struggles we all forget about when we’re cold, are you still excited for summer? Can you think of any summer struggles that we’ve missed? Let us know in the comments below!
