Summer Hair Tips: How To Get Sun-Kissed Locks

Sun-kissed locks are every girl’s (or guy’s) dream for the summer, but sometimes hard to achieve. However, there are a few tips and tricks you can use to transform your dry and dull hair into healthy and luscious locks this summer!

1. Wash Your Hair Less

Washing your hair too often can strip it of its natural oils and nutrients which over time will make your hair incredibly dry and sensitive to products and cause oils to build up quicker in attempt to try and combat the dryness. To avoid this, try washing your hair only a couple of times per week which will give your hair time to repair and restore the natural balance that your tresses originally had, which will ultimately give you shiny luscious locks.

2. Apply Coconut Oil

Applying coconut oil, or any natural oil, to the ends of your hair daily will protect it from dryness and moisturise and nourish the ends which will prevent split ends and flyaways. Applying a specific oil to your whole head once a week will also nourish your dehydrated ends and give it an extra boost of shine, giving you the ultimate sun-kissed locks!

3. Avoid Applying Heat To Your Hair

Try and avoid straighteners, curlers and hairdryers at all costs! The heat from these appliances can severely damage your hair and over time can cause split ends, dryness, sparse hair and even thinning. Letting your hair dry naturally after washing it and rocking your natural style will help you achieve the healthy, glowing hair you’ve always dreamed of.

4. Use A Natural Bristle Hairbrush

Using a rough, rather stiff feeling natural bristle hairbrush will evenly distribute the natural oils at your roots throughout your whole head of hair and down to the ends, which ultimately promotes a natural healthy gloss and shine. This also does wonders for adding volume to thinner hair!

5. Use A Weekly Hair Mask

Using either a leave-in conditioner, an overnight hair mask or simply a 20-minute hair mask will help boosts your hairs natural shine and restore its oils and nutrients which are crucial for its health and growth. This is not only good for your hair, but for your soul! Who doesn’t love a good pamper night?!

6. Minimise Your Shampoo Usage

This may seem like a strange tip but reducing the amount of shampoo you use and only applying a small dollop will make a big difference to the quality of your hair. Simply massage the small dollop of shampoo into your roots which will not only activate the hair follicles which promotes growth, but it also will feel super nice on your scalp. No need to scrub your ends, the shampoo will give them a gentle scrub as you wash the it out.

7. Drink Water

Along with all the other health benefits water has, it will also contribute to the health and growth of your hair. Similarly to a plant, hair needs water to grow and strengthen. Drinking at least 2 litres of water a day will increase the strength of your hair, ultimately increasing growth. Dehydration will immediately halt the growth of your hair, so get drinking!

8. Eat Omega 3

The fatty acids that omega 3 has to offer will give your locks a huge kick of hydration which can be found in foods such as eggs and fish. Omega 3 is notorious for improving hair and skin quality, so try and incorporate these foods into your diet!
