Summer is the time for going to the beach, enjoying the warm sun and having brain-freeze-inducing ice-cream. Summer is also perfect for drinking a cold, refreshing summer cocktail. Whether you like the classics such as margaritas or cosmopolitans, or want something more adventurous and different, there is something out there for everyone. Here are five summer cocktail recipes to try out this summer.
A twist on the classic mojito (which is a perfect summer cocktail recipe in itself), the blackberries give this summer cocktail a tarty kick, which is paired perfectly with the freshness of the mint leaves, the sweetness of the sugar and the refreshing soda water. The recipe is simple and takes only 5 minutes to make – just in time before the heat of the sun gets too much for you. After drinking this delicious cocktail, you’ll feel like you’re relaxing under the sun in Havana.

Sangria is another classic summer cocktail, but this recipe takes the drink to a whole new level. It does take longer to make this drink, as you will need to freeze the wine overnight in an ice cube tray, but you will not be disappointed when you’re slurping this adult version of a slushie under the beating heat of the sun. Furthermore, like the classic sangria, this summer cocktail is versatile, as you can freeze either red or white wine. This summer cocktail recipe is one to enjoy while you’re basking by the pool with your friends.

Another summer cocktail to try out is the Rosita cocktail. The cocktail first appeared in Gary Regan’s 1991 publication, The Bartender’s Bible, a guidebook to the art of cocktail making. Considered to be the ‘cousin’ of the classic Negroni cocktail, this drink combines the citrusy and bitter taste of Campari with the smokiness of mezcal (which replaces the tequial in normal Rosita recipes), as well as adding both sweet and dry vermouth. This robust summer cocktail is a perfect accompaniment to a warm summer’s evening.

If you have ever gone to Disneyland, it is 100% guaranteed that you have had a Dole Whip, but this summer cocktail recipe puts its own little magic into it, transforming the much loved frozen dessert. The Boozy Dole Whip can be considered the cousin to the classic pina colada, but is slightly different in that it uses frozen pineapple and coconut rum in addition to the coconut milk. As a result, this summer cocktail is more of a smoothie, but no less refreshing and satisfying. This summer cocktail recipe will be sure to bring out the child in you while you enjoy the summer sun.

It wouldn’t be an article about summer cocktail recipes without at least one classic cocktail, and look no further than the margarita. Quick and easy to make, this cocktail is perfect for summer. The freshness of the lime juice and the salt rim is contrasted by the smoky flavour of the tequila and the orange taste of Cointreau. Moreover, the amazing thing with this summer cocktail recipe, is that you can create different variations of the margarita, such as the frozen margarita, or different flavours (pineapple, watermelon, mango, etc). One sip of this drink, and your summer has just started.
