10 Studying Tips For Exams Every First Year Should Know

Her are a few studying tips for first year students to know before they start to take exams. Ease your nerves with these tips!

They say the first year of university is a breeze, but that does not mean that the exams themselves are easy or are stress-free to say the least! University, in general, is tough and you are left with a minimum amount of guidance- as you are in fact a newfound adult after all! With this being said, exam season is pretty much the worst period in any student’s life, and it is just as daunting in its first year when you are still getting used to the dynamics of uni life. Here are studying tips that you should know before exams!

So going off from this, here is a compiled list of 5 studying tips for exams every first year should know…

1. Make a timetable

Time management is absolutely crucial for when you have a lot of studying to do- especially for something really important like exams! This is why it is vital to have designated times and days for when you are going to revise each subject, module or course. A timetable therefore helps you to map out a trusted system where you can share and divide a certain amount of time for each course you are revising. This will make you more likely to do well in all of your exams, as you would have spent an equal amount of time in preparation for all the tests you will take. It will make you aware of what you need to revise first… AND CONQUER and then what you need to move onto next, once again making you more likely to do well in all your exams! Also, a visual representation of what you need to do will also give you a sense of clarity and peace as all the things on you’re to do list are not piling up in your mind and making you stressed out as a consequence. This studying tip is such a full proof way to get the grades you want!

2. Create some revision cards

Revision cards are an essential way to get all the information you need for your exams into your head! Revision cards thus help you to ONLY put the much needed facts and figures that are necessary to know for your exams as they come in small sizes, therefore making you unable to pack on random bits of meaningless info you didn’t need! It is also a very handy/ portal technique for ‘on the go’ revision. You can honestly whip these bad boys out while you are waiting for the bus, in bed, walking to uni etc… easy! This is for sure one of my all- time favourite studying tips out there, so be sure to give this a try if you want ‘brainy box’ to be your new status!

3. Rewrite, rewrite and rewrite!

This tip has always helped me to memorise all the important facts and bits of information I need for my exams! The art of rewriting all the info out again and again embeds into your minds after a while. I also find it helpful to test my knowledge out by rewriting the facts by memory- which also clearly shows me what I definitely know and what I don’t! This studying tip will make you one step closer into passing!

4. Play Teacher!

This one might sound a bit odd but it seriously does work! If you act like an expert in the topic you are revising for by acting as a ‘teacher’, you both learn whilst narrating bits of information to yourself, whilst also subconsciously making yourself believe that you are a seasoned PRO in the field you are studying. This will therefore enable you to ACE your exams with flying colours as a direct result! What really acted as my saviour in grace was a gigantic WHITEBOARD and some WASHABLE MARKERS! This not only made it extremely easy for me to pull of the whole ‘teacher’ persona but it also made it really easy to write down all the info I needed to learn. With this, I was able to see everything I needed to remember and learn in one place clearly, instead of on a numerous amount of noted papers! In addition, it goes without saying that you can save a HECK load of trees at the same time… a win win wouldn’t you say? So defo try this studying tip if you want to ace all those exams and also be environmentally friendly at the same time! 😉

Make sure you put coloured post its up to attract your attention and also put them in the places you go to and look at the most e.g on your bathroom mirror, the wall next to your TV, kitchen cupboards etc… The inability to escape the act of learning and memorising therefore makes it inevitable that you WILL pass your exams!
