Struggles Only People Who Wear Glasses Will Understand

mm

Whether you’re a moderate or a full time wearer of glasses, we all know they bring struggles that you will be all too familiar with – talk about first-world problems! If these struggles get you as frustrated as I do, then we will have a bond that will surely last forever. Or for as long as we wear glasses… which will be unlikely to change anytime soon.

Double trouble

Let’s start with the weather. It’s sunny out and everyone is enjoying walking around with their sun glasses sitting happily on their face or their heads, but not for you! No… you have to wear two pairs of shades. So while looking ridiculous with two pairs of glasses on, you’re constantly toggling between the sun rays and your crappy vision. Or maybe you’re smart enough to get prescription shades. Good for you. And we can’t forget about those 3D movie cinema trips. Big mistake!

Coping in the rain

If you wear glasses, you know full well there’s absolutely no point in wiping those droplets off because they’ll plop right back on within the next 2 seconds. Have fun with your own personal kaleidoscope… whoopee.

Lying down

Trying to lie down in a comfortable position but you still want to be able to actually see what you’re looking at. Because your frames exceed the length of your ear when you wear glasses, you’re forced to fight against your cushion or couch arm. It takes a lot of twisting and turning to find a good enough place to put your head without compromising your sight.

Phantom glasses syndrome

Yes, it’s a thing. That poindexter motion we all know too well when you try to lift your glasses back up onto your nose with a one finger motion. Except, your glasses aren’t actually on your face because at the rare occasion that you’ve been able to take them off, you’re so used to them that you still think you’re wearing them! So what do you do, you press your nose bridge as if it was a button.

They just get annoying

If you regularly wear glasses then you’re aware that they are always on you, so every now and then you just want to take them off to free your face! But as soon as you take them off, you know you’ll need to put them right back on. Nothing lasts forever they say… yea right.

Foggy glasses

Cup of tea/coffee? Stepping onto a full bus? Coming out of a hot shower? You can never get used to not being able to see through your lenses for the first minute and a half in any of these situations. So what do you do, get out your shirt bottom and wipe those suckers, only to leave steam marks behind. You go in for the second round of wiping and there’s still a mark or too. By that time, you just give up and suffer with a blurred window to the world for a couple of minutes (if not, the whole bus journey!).

Physical activity

Competition sports, jogging, a trip to the gym. For those of us who aren’t professional athletes who have specially made glasses for physical activity, we are faced with the big question: what to do with my glasses? Do you wear glasses and try to partake at the risk that you drop and break them; with them bouncing on your face; but at least you can see what your doing, right? Or do you get rid and exercise blind. Decisions, decisions…

Can’t live with them, can’t live without them

At the end of the day and despite our tumultuous relationship with them, we can’t deny we would be more than helpless without our trusty glasses.
