7 Steps You Cannot Forget In Your Skincare Routine While Travelling

Global jet-setter or annual girls holiday? Everyone has been in the same position and knows that there is nothing worse than stepping off a plane to the worlds driest skin. By following these seven steps in your skincare routine, you’ll be back to your usual glowy godness self in no time.

1. Cleanse

This should go without saying, but the first step in ANY skincare routine should be cleansing. Forget micellar water, the best way to have a fresh and clean face is by using a microfiber facecloth and a face wash of choice. Oil free foamy face washes are recommended to those with combo/oily skin and gel face washes are recommended to those with dry/sensitive skin.

2. Exfoliate

Recently within the online beauty community, there has been a real debate about how you should exfoliate. Nothing feels nicer than giving your face a good pampering after a long flight of recycled air, so treat yourself. Chemical exfoliants are the way to go as most are gentle enough to use daily, compared to face scrubs which have been found to contain plastic harmful to aquatic life and can cause micro-tears on the surface of your face, leading to infections, breakouts and premature aging.

3. Moisture Mask

Keep a moisturizing mask in your hand luggage at all time, I promise you will thank me for it! Apply this while on the plane to stop your skin from drying out, this works best with masks that will soak into your skin and don’t need to be washed off or tissue masks that you peel right off and leave the residue to soak in. Even better, if you can get your hands on a jade roller to either apply the mask or to roll in excess residue, this helps prevent a puffy face and keeps your skin looking young.

4. Serum

There is an infinite range of serums out there in the world for an infinite number of different reasons. One serum I think everyone should invest in, especially whilst travelling, is a vitamin C serum. Some of the benefits from vitamin C serums include: penetrating deeper levels of the skin than moisturizer to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, smooths the skin, reduces the appearance of dark spots, and protects from UV rays (but not to the same extent as SPF sunblock).

5. Moisturizer

This is the step that can make or break any skincare routine. Moisturizer should be used by all skin types, it’s just about finding the right one that works for you. Even if you have oily skin, moisturizer can stop your skin from producing excess oil as by producing these oils, could be your skins way of telling you it’s dehydrated. Remember, no matter how much water you drink, if your skin is dehydrated the only way to refresh it is by moisturizing!

6. Lip Balm

If like me you’re a total lip balm junkie, then this step should be no problem for you. Contrary to popular belief, most lip balms don’t actually moisturize the lips but instead seal the lips. So make sure you find a lip balm that does both, especially while travelling to avoid chapped lips.

8. SPF

If there is any only one step you have to follow in these seven steps, it is this one! No matter where you are going, ALWAYS have some sun protection with you.  From skin cancer to premature aging, there is a whole list of reasons why you should always wear SPF that it would be silly not to. Make sure you top up your sun cream throughout the day at appropriate times and that you try to stick to shaded areas between 12pm and 3pm as that is when the sun is at it’s highest.
