Start Planning Your Eurovision Night Early
Eurovision: the best night of the year. For some anyway. For me, definitely.
For those who might not be aware, Eurovision is a yearly event that takes place where countries part of the European Union (and some not) take part in a fun-filled night of music where the countries are brought together to compete against one another to win the talent contest. It is a true spectacle in the best possible way as it allows artists to showcase their talents and represent their country in a music competition.
It’s like the Olympics, but for singers.
The Eurovision Grand Final might not be until May but it is never to early to start prepping for the big night in order to make it the best night of the year! Here’s what you will need to make the most of the night.
Decorate
Turn the night into a real event with the right decor!
Bunting, flags, the whole shebang!
Deck the halls with sparkles (tinsel is good) and European decor to celebrate Europe coming together for a night of great entertainment in the grandest talent show ever seen.
If you are rooting for your country, get some flags up! Don’t be afraid to represent!
The decor will help set the scene for the night and get it off to a great start as the contest gets underway.
Grab yourself some cheap confetti and party poppers and let them rip with your close friends in tow in this magical time of Eurovision!
International Feast
Celebrate Eurovision by trying your hand at cooking some international cuisines.
What better way to host an epic party night than with some delicious food that you wouldn’t otherwise have.
You do not need to be a master chef for this, you don’t even need to go all out with the prep. That is all up to your personal choice and skill set.
It is very easy to get your hands on some international finger foods and things to heat up in the oven. But if you like a challenge you can really take it further and attempt some international dishes to serve at your dinner table.
Some easy dishes you can whip up would be Spanish paella, Italian pizza, Swedish Meatballs, and possibly some Austrian apple strudel.
There are other treats that would be easy for you to find in stores such as French macarons, Danish pastries to have on the side as easy finger foods that are still in keeping with the European theme.
If you want to try your hand at making something more complex, check out some popular international dishes and treat your party guests to some delicious food on the big night.
Dress Code
Find an excuse to dress up!
What you wear is just as important as the decorations you put up.
Eurovision is a perfect moment for you to put on your best glitzy outfit and celebrate in some serious style. If you’re struggling for inspiration, look up some past winners and fashion icons of the competition.
Show up dressed like Verka Serduchka for extra style points!
Do Some Research
Know your acts.
Now, I have to admit that I rarely follow this part. I enjoy being surprised at the grand final when I can see the acts and performances for the first time and judge with fresh eyes. It is more exciting to be able to see the acts for the first time rather than do research and be prepared for what is to come.
However, I still think it is a good idea to keep on top of Eurovision news and keep an eye on the festivities as they unfold. In the end, only 26 acts make it through to the final. Tune into the semi-finals and support the acts that fail to make it through to the grand finale otherwise you run the risk of missing out on some underrated acts and artists.
Alcohol Is Free!
Alcohol alcohol alcohol is free!
Eurovision is best enjoyed with a drink or two.
Try out some cocktails or international drinks to really get into the spirit of Eurovision.
Sangria is a perfect recipe for Eurovision as it is easy to drink and pair with foods as well as easy to make in a big batch for all of your party guests. If you want more selections of international drinks, look into vodka, ouzo, or a proper beer (Irish Guinness or Heineken).
Whatever your choice, drink responsibly and we can all have a great time!
Make A Playlist
The counting of votes can get tedious sometimes. Prepare a playlist of old Euro classics to entertain you during this tense time!
Throw together a playlist of past winners, popular entries, and plenty of ABBA for perfect background music that can never get boring as you wait for the winner to be announced and crowned for 2019!
