Today I thought we could discuss something a little different that affects many students at university including me, across the UK and around the world. Shocking statistics prevail year by year of the increase in anxiety which affects many university students in diverse ways due to the challenges that students face socially and financially. It is said that one in four university students battle anxiety. On a night when my anxiety was keeping me awake, I decided to scroll through Spotify playlists as I feel that music is a wonderful way to take your mind off things. I found several playlists that Spotify had made in a genre called ‘Sleep’. I was really shocked that by playing these songs from these playlists helped put my mind at ease and made it easier to fall into a healthy pattern of sleep. Here are fifteen of the best Spotify playlists that helped me cure my sleep anxiety and put it to bed!
This was the first playlist I discovered as a remedy for sleep and minimising my stress levels into a state of calm. With 51 songs, you are bound to find a few that will help you sleep and put your sleep anxiety to bed, so you can get a healthy amount of sleep. One of my favourites is a song called “Planets and Stars” by Pavvla which uses a soothing and soft melodic piano with peaceful vocals, which makes you feel like you’re in a nineteenth-century French painting by Vincent Van Gogh. “Fuel To Fire” by Agnes Obel is beautiful and enchanting song using piano and orchestra to help you escape from the stress and really helped me reduce my sleep anxiety and fall asleep.
If you’re looking for something that doesn’t use vocals and uses only sound, then this playlist will help put you in a place of tranquillity away from the stresses of university. Classical music has been scientifically proven to decrease blood pressure, which means that this playlist is perfect to put anxiety at bay and stress on hold to get a good night’s rest!
