The best snacks can shift as the season changes and with summer rolling around it’s guaranteed that you’ll be craving something that’s cold and refreshing. Whether its a selection of fruit or refreshing small dishes to get you through the day, the items on this list will be perfect for you. Here are 15 snacks that you’ll be obsessing over this summer, whether it’s to beat the heat or to savour those refreshing summer flavours.

1. Watermelon

Watermelon is a classic summer snack and a great option if you’re looking for something that’s both cold and hydrating. A watermelon right out of the fridge can be just what you need to deal with the heat.

2. Pineapple

Just like watermelon, pineapple is super hydrating and perfect for the season. It’s an iconic summer flavour and can be incredibly juicy and sweet if it’s at the right level of ripeness.

3. Celery and carrot sticks

If you’re craving something crunchy then why not go for some chopped carrot and celery sticks? Crisp and refreshing, both are low in fat and calories. They require little prep time and can be easily stored away – just grab a serving from the fridge when you’re feeling peckish.

4. Fruit salad

Fruit is a great source of vitamins and minerals and counts towards your 5-a-day. A fruit salad is an easy and refreshing snack to make.  It’s also flexible and lets you choose your favourites. A teaspoon of honey or sugar can be added into the mix for some sweetness to balance out the tart and sour flavours.

Slushies are great cool-me-down treats to have in summer and it’s quick to make. Just add frozen fruits, fruit juice and a tablespoon of sugar or honey to a blender or food processor and enjoy.

An ice lolly in the garden or at the park is an idyllic summer scenario. Depending on the brand, ice lollies can also be a great alternative to ice cream if you’re not a fan of dairy, or if you’re lactose intolerant.

It’s the same creamy goodness, just without the guilt, and there are so many refreshing sorbet flavours out there. Sorbet is made from water and fruit puree or juice. It contains no milk, cream or eggs, and is a great alternative to ice cream if you have any allergies.
