For many of us, our skincare consists of cleansing, moisturising and occasionally exfoliating. Sure, we could blame this on our fast-paced lifestyles, but remember, your skin will treat you well if you treat it well. Adding some simple yet effective steps can make a world of difference to your skin, and make it age better. That is why I am here to share with you 6 simple practises that you need to incorporate into your skincare regime!
It is a well-known fact that water is the key to life. Without it, nothing would be able to survive. Despite knowing this, so many of us (including myself!) are careless with keeping on top of our daily water intake. Hydration is important for keeping your skin clear, smooth and plump!
Green smoothies are simple to make and consume for breakfast. They are a brilliant addition to your diet if you find it difficult to get your 5 a day into your hot meals. Green smoothies are fantastic for your skin as they contain fresh, raw ingredients which fill your body with nutrients. This is great for your skin and hair!
A basic green smoothie recipe could include spinach, celery, an apple, a bit of kale, coriander and some coconut water. Simple! I’d definitely recommend using apply in your smoothie as apple brings a bit of sweetness to the mix – it takes the edge off and actually makes the smoothie taste quite pleasant! Once you get used to making a basic green smoothie, you can have fun experimenting with different ingredients and recipes!
Whether your skin is normal, combination, oily, dry, acne prone, sensitive, allergy prone (or anything else!) there will be a mask out there to suit your needs. Whether this is a sheet mask, clay mask or any other type of mask, is entirely down to your preference and your skin’s needs. It might take some experimenting to find the right one, but it’ll be worth it once you do, as masks are a brilliant way to treat, revitalise and maintain the skin.
Hyaluronic Acid boosts your skin’s moisture and hydration levels, as it can hold 1000 times its own weight in water in the cells of the skin, when applied topically. Scientific studies have shown that Hyaluronic Acid helps improve skin hydration, collagen production, fight free radicals, maintain skin elasticity, and even has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help with wound healing. This makes it great for all skin types, particularly those with dry, irritated or ageing skin! A must for your skincare regime!
Trying to convince people to use sun protection on a daily basis can feel like a losing battle! People often believe that sun protection is only required in the midday heat on a beach, or when the sun is blazing. But this is not the case. The sun is always there, even when it is cloudy, and years of exposure to it can lead to premature ageing. It is best to use sun protection daily from your late teenage years and onwards, to keep help keep your skin youthful.
These supplements are a great addition to your daily diet and skin care regime, as a way of incorporating vitamins and minerals that you may not always obtain from your food. Not only are they good for your skin, they are also good for your hair and general health. Try to look for a supplement containing collagen, as this will help to maintain your skin’s elasticity. Some great hair, skin and nails supplement brands include Solgar and Starpowa.
