5 Simple Beauty Techniques That Will Change Your Makeup Game
Ready to take your makeup game form ‘same-y’ to ‘slay’? Like many of us, we hold on to makeup tips and techniques we learned when we first started experimenting with make-up. And while applying 50 layers of makeup like we all did in high school isn’t a crime so to speak, it probably isn’t really doing much for your makeup game anymore. Roll on the most simple makeup techniques that will change your face forever.
1) Dermaplaning
This is one of the most simple beauty techniques. You can get it done professionally, or do it yourself at home for a fraction of the price. The premise is, dermaplaning removes all the peach fuzz and dead skin off your face, not only does this leave your skin healthier and rejuvenated, but it also completely changes how your makeup is applied. Your foundation, BB cream or whatever makeup you use on your skin applies so much smoother, giving you that airbrushed, poreless look in real life! Contrary to the rumours, dermaplaning does not make your hair grow back faster or thicker, trust me, you’ll never look back with this one.
2) Don’t waste your product
Whilst Beauty Blenders have taken the makeup world by storm, they’re renowned for sucking up product like… well like a sponge (duh?). Applying your foundation with just a beauty blender actually results in only about 50% of the product ending up on your skin, and the rest being soaked up by the sponge only to be washed away on those rare occasions you actually wash your Beauty Blender. To counteract this, apply your foundation roughly with your (clean) fingers or a brush, then just use . your Beauty Blender to actually blend it into the skin. Not only will you save that expensive product but you’ll find your coverage is better and your makeup blends much easier.
3) Spray and stay
There’s nothing worse than makeup smudging and sliding off your face on a hot day or in the middle of a night out. The key to keeping your face in place is L-A-Y-E-R-I-N-G, start your makeup with a primer to hydrate your skin and smooth it out ready for application. Once your makeup is applied, use a setting spray (MAC Fix Plus is a personal favourite) to keep that makeup in place as well as giving your face a glow and making that highlighter pop! Trust me on this one, your face will still be looking popping as you devour that 3am McDonalds at the end of the night.
4) Stencil It
Arguably the hardest part of makeup application is getting both sides of your face even. If you’re someone who struggles with this or simply have difficulty with precision, you should definitely give stencils a go. They’re easy to find online (take a look on Amazon) and can give you the perfect winged liner or precision brows easier than you can possibly imagine. Simply line the stencil up and fill with your favourite product, it’s as easy as that!
5) Build Build Build
Ever heard the saying less is more? Of course you have, and in this case it is the way to go. We can all agree theres nothing we cringe at more than looking back at pictures of when we had foundation lines and too-heavy orange bronzer. Instead of slapping on the makeup heavy handed, start with a really soft layer and build until the coverage is at the perfect consistency. If you’re struggling to tell, make sure you are checking your makeup in natural light. Makeup that looks great in your dark bathroom can often look more like a drag queen look out in the daylight.
