10 Signs You’re Overwhelmed And How To Fix It

Let’s face it, we’ve all felt overwhelmed at some point in our lives. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed right now and you’re looking for some guidance. Here are some signs that you may be overwhelmed, and some strategies to help with each.

1. You Have Difficulty Sleeping

One sign that you are overwhelmed is if you begin to experience difficulty when trying to sleep or you’re sleeping too much. Try sticking to a evening routine – this should train your brain that it’s time to go to bed, over time. Additionally, try to go to bed at a reasonable time (not too early, or too late) each night.

2. You Are Always Tired

Another sign that you’re overwhelmed is if you always feel tired, no matter how much sleep you get. All of the tips mentioned above apply however, you can also try to eat healthy foods that give you natural energy.

3. You Lack Energy

For most people, feeling overwhelmed and experiencing a lack of energy come hand in hand. All of the tips mentioned above apply however, you can also try to exercise. Exercising will tire you out physically to help you sleep and get a good night’s rest. Regular exercise also can help with your mental health and wellbeing.

4. You Are Anxious

To help with feeling overwhelmed and feeling anxious and high-strung, try taking little breaks throughout your day to help ease your nerves and help you relax. Additionally, limit (or avoid) caffeine and alcohol. As mentioned above, try to exercise a little to relieve stress and improve your mental health and wellbeing.

5. You Are Stressed Out

To feel less overwhelmed and stressed out, try to establish more balance in your life. For example, try to create and maintain a greater balance between work and play. Additionally, break large tasks down into small ones. Then, focus on completing the smaller tasks instead.

6. You Have A Loss Of Appetite

Another sign that you are overwhelmed is if you begin to experience a loss of appetite or you find yourself overeating. Try establishing an eating routine, by eating at certain times each day. Additionally, try to eat healthy foods that provide the most nutrition and energy. For example, healthy fats and protein.

7. You Have Difficulty Focusing

Feeling overwhelmed can lead to a lack of focus – try to break down large tasks into smaller ones, to ease your workload. Additionally, make lists and check off completed items as you go, to re-build your confidence and motivation to keep going.

One of the biggest side-effects of feeling overwhelmed is lacking motivation. Take some time for yourself and implement some self-care activities into your routine, to ensure you are at your healthiest and most-balanced state.

9. You’re Keeping To Yourself More

There is nothing wrong with taking some time off for yourself. You deserve it! Try to use this time wisely – do activities that you enjoy such as reading a book or going to the cinema. Self-care is key in ensuring you return to your healthy and happy self.

10. You Are Emotional

Whilst self-care activities are good for your short-term health and wellbeing, if you are feeling emotional and moody as a result of feeling overwhelmed, speak to a doctor or healthcare professional. Confide in a good friend and talk openly about how you are feeling. The most important thing to remember is that you’re not alone, and even the healthiest and most-balanced people feel overwhelmed at times.
