20 Signs You Go To Teesside University That Students Will Understand

Teesside University is a small, modern and up-and-coming University in Middlesbrough in the North East. Whether you’re a first-year student or a Postgrad who’s been here a while, you should be able to relate to these typical signs you go to Teesside University by now:

1.You know the struggle of reaching the 10th floor of Middlesbrough Tower for 9am

Every Teesside Uni student with lectures in Middlesbrough Tower will have experienced the struggle of fighting for a place in the lift to get you to the 10th floor for 9am on a Monday morning! It will no doubt be the longest ride of your life as it is bound to stop at every floor!

2.You understand the struggle of parking after 8.30am

If you drive to Uni, rather than living on campus, you’ll definitely have experienced the struggle of parking at Teesside! If you arrive any later than 8.30am it is almost impossible to park nearby, so you’ll need to get in early even if your lecture isn’t until later in the day.

3.Your favourite takeaway food is Chicken Parmo!

All students love a takeaway, but if a famous Boro Parmo isn’t your favourite, do you even go here? If you love this yummy fast-food fix is a combination of bread-crumbed chicken, creamy béchamel sauce and melted cheese, it is a good sign you go to Teesside University!

4.Monday night is quiz night!

If you live on campus, you’ll likely attend the SU every Monday evening for the weekly quiz night! Whether you go with your housemates or your club or society, taking on the weekly challenge to try and win some drinks or just to have a good laugh, is a clear sign you go to Teesside University!

5.You’re used to hunting for a seat in the library

Most Teesside University students will have had to hunt for a decent seat in the library, despite its various upgrades. This is a particular problem towards the end of term, when everyone knuckles down to study for their exams or meet their coursework deadlines. You may have even had to go up to the silent floor to avoid the chaos downstairs!

6.You’re part of at least one club or society

Teesside University has an award-winning Students’ Union, with something for just about everyone in its activities department, so I’d be surprised if you’re not part of at least one club or society during your time as a student there. If sports aren’t your thing, there are lots of societies you can join like Real Ale, Comedy, LGBTQ and even one for Harry Potter fans!

7.The Southfield is one of your regular haunts

Located smack-bang in the middle of Teesside’s campus, The Southfield is a pub which will likely become a second home for you and your friends to chill out in! Whether you want to take a break from studying and grab some lunch, or just fancy a pint and a game of pool, being a regular visitor to The Southfield is a clear sign you go to Teesside University!

8.You regularly buy Sainsbury meal deals for lunch

With Sainsburys just around the corner from the Uni, you’ll know that their meal deals are a lifesaver if you only have a short window for your lunch or you need some fuel for a long library session! If you regularly buy them, it’s a good sign you go to Teesside!

9.You know that living in Woodlands does not mean luxury

Before moving to Teesside, many of you will have opted to stay in Woodlands Halls for its ensuite bathrooms. This likely impressed those students who had to share, however, anyone who lived there will know that Woodlands is far from luxurious. In reality, there were lots of leaks, fire alarms constantly set off by showers and it cost a lot more than it was really worth!

10.You’ve seen a famous music act in the SU

Whether it was during Freshers week or at Final Fling, if you go to Teesside University, you’ll have seen at least one famous music act at the SU. When I first started, Example were the main attraction and many more acts have visited since then, including The Vengaboys!
