20 Signs You Go To Canterbury Christ Church’s University

Whether you are going for the day or living in the city, Canterbury is always a wonderful place to see and be in. Throughout the year, there are always things to see and do. Here are 20 signs that you are a student of Canterbury Christ Church’s University.

1. You constantly referred to the university as CCCU

Saying the whole name of the university is a bit of a mouthful, which is why a lot of people just refer to Canterbury Christ Church’s University as CCCU. It’s just easier that way.

2. You noticed the cathedral everywhere you went

The famous cathedral of Canterbury was visible almost anywhere you were. I was told during my first year that if you ever got lost, always head towards the cathedral.

3. You went to either Herne Bay or Broadstairs when the sun was out

Both of which had the loveliest beaches, perfect for a sunny day out during the summer.

4. You were bombarded with arts and culture during Canterbury festival

Canterbury is famous for its arts and culture. Every October, arts and culture were populated more than usual round the city. Sometimes, pianos pop up around the city to give anybody the chance to play.

5. You noticed buskers and performers everywhere in the city centre

Sometimes, these were students prepping for their performance. Other occasions, it was just a random group of players wanting to take advantage of the perfect weather and visitors. Its always lovely to listen whilst you’re doing your shopping. There are so many free concerts round the university by both performers in and out of the university.

6. It was a rite of passage to go to the Cathedral at least once

As a student, getting in is free. You’ll be able to graduate here but its always lovely to admire it. There are so many events you can go to during the year or you can just go in during the day just to admire this famous building.

7. You and all of your friends wanted to go to the Carols by Candlelight

The carol service of the year which always sells out within a few days of release. Every year, people come into the cathedral during the evening only to be illuminated by candlelight. Its always a great concert to go to to get into the spirit of Christmas.

8. Whetherspoons was always the one place everyone wanted to go to during their night out

Not necessarily to go out for a drink, but to have one of their great meals. It’s a great place to be either way, and a great place for societies to meet up for a social.

9. Everyone knew what Club Chemistry was, and went at least once

It’s the most famous club in Canterbury, full of event and special guests. If you wanted to dress up for a fun night out, this is one of the best places to go.

10. That or the Student Union

Which were always filled with society meetings and events run by the Student Union and even societies.

11. Everything was in walking distance

Or a small bus ride away. Which is handy as parking is very hard round Canterbury.

12. You found it easy to get round the university

Compared to most universities, Canterbury Christ Church’s University was considered to be quite a tiny university. Although you may get lost on the first few days, everything becomes familiar quite quickly.

13. Varisty was a huge highlight for everyone

Particularly between the Canterbury Christ Church’s University and the University of Kent. It’s a great time to support the university whilst watching sports.

14. You went exploring one of Canterbury’s parks when you needed a break from studying

From John Dane Park to the city centre itself, there is always a good place to catch the scenery round this city, particularly if you needed a break from studying.

15. Shopping for presents was always easy.

The city centre is always full of may shops and markets, particularly during Christmas, when the city centre is filled of stalls perfect for Christmas presents.

16. The party of the year was always the university’s Summer Ball

Bringing in several famous acts such as “Scouting For Girls”, the Summer Ball is always the largest party of the year full of amazing music and events round the university.

17. But you were just as excited to go to some of the society’s amazing balls

Some societies create their own balls, both during the summer and during the end of the winter ball.

18. You noticed tourists all over the city centre

Whether it was during the school holidays or during term time, Canterbury is always a tourist attraction. You could usually tell by the large sea of students moving round the city centre.

19. The students and staff are lovely

From the students to the staff, everyone here is welcoming and friendly. Whether you needed to talk to someone or need to get directions to somewhere on campus, there is always some friendly face who could help.

20. The city felt like a second home

With the cosiness of the university to the beautiful scenery, it’s a great place to study and meet new people.
