Living in Canterbury has been an amazing experience for me. It is such a beautiful city and is always full of surprises. Canterbury is full of culture and amazing places to visit both during the day and night. If you want to explore more of Canterbury but want to go somewhere different, here are ten great secret spots that you should visit.
This tiny museum is in the same building as the library in Canterbury. Although it is a small museum, its full of brilliant paintings. Plus, it has a cafe right next door if you wanted to grab a cup of tea and some lunch.
Opposite to Leydon Lettings, there is a tiny garden where you can sit and relax for a while. It is by a quiet road where you can enjoy your lunch or just sit and relax in whilst enjoying the enclosed scenery.
Hidden within the walls of the Cathedral, these lovely gardens are a wonderful place to visit on a sunny day. This area is designed to support wildlife and has many lovely places which are enclosed to many. There is a small fee to pay but its worth every penny. Its open all week except for Sundays.
Want to see Canterbury from a different perspective, then take the river tour. This 40-minute tour is on the River Stour which will take you through many historic artefacts in Canterbury as well as some hidden treasures that you can only see whilst on this tour.
Behind Parham student village, there is a short pathway following the river Stour. Take that into Barton Mill Road, take the second right past the pavement and follow the river down into the city centre. I only discovered this pathway before I moved out of university and its such a beautiful walk to take when the sun is out.
Just outside Canterbury Christ Church University, there is a church nearby. Just follow the walls of the university, and right next door to St Martins Priory, there is a tiny seating area just by its entrance where you can sit and chill for a while.
This little treasure is a clearing that is slightly outside the city centre. Although this is bare, it’s a lovely place to have a wonder. Plus, you’ll be able to get a great view of the Cathedral from here. It’s even more beautiful on a snowy day. It is safe, have a wonder onto here when the snow begins to set.
This 188-year-old pathway is a great way to exercise whilst enjoying the beautiful scenery that Canterbury has to offer. This walk will lead you to Whitstable. If you’re up for the challenge of walking, this is a great walk to do, not to mention a great trip to Whitstable which saves you money on transport too.
Hidden within the city centre, you’ll find a staircase leading up to this amazing restaurant. This restaurant not only has a beautiful interior, but it also serves food from 10am-10pm. Whether you need something to eat or want to treat yourself, this is a great restaurant to go to.
Full of narrow bridges to cross, this treasure is full of sounds of running machinery from the mills. This is a great park to go to if want to explore somewhere different.
