8 Reasons You Need To Work At A Summer Camp This Summer

Working at a summer camp will truly be one of the best experiences of your entire life, and here are the top 8 reasons why!

Spending a summer at a summer camp is simply one of the best and most life-changing decisions you will ever make. Nothing is quite like the experience of spending 3 months on a different continent, with an entirely different culture and with people from all walks of life. You will find things out about yourself you never would have expected and create memories that will last you a lifetime. So here are 8 reasons why you absolutely need to work at a summer camp this summer.

1. You’re Getting Paid To Have Fun

Of course, you’ll be working super hard to make sure you’re doing the best you possibly can in your job role or activity specialty and trying your hardest to give the campers the best summer of their lives, but essentially you’re being paid for a holiday. You get to spend each day soaking up the summer rays and taking part in amazing activities that you may never experience elsewhere. Not to mention, the fun you’ll be having with your new friends and your adorable campers!

2. The Campers

The campers that you’ll be taking care of for weeks at a time and the bond you create with them is actually super unexpected and they’ll become an important part of your life. They’ll make you laugh, they’ll make you cry and sometimes they’ll drive you absolutely crazy but at the end of the day, they’re the reason you’re there and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

3. The After Camp Adventures

Once you’ve finished working at the summer camp, you’ll have the opportunity to explore other cities or states in the country you’ve been working at and this can sometimes be one of the best parts of your trip. A few days, a couple of weeks or even several months after you have finished camp you can spend exploring places such as New York, Las Vegas, Boston, New Orleans or any other American or Canadian city you’ve always been dying to visit. Now’s your chance!

4. Learn A New Culture

Learning a new culture, whether that’s American, Canadian or Jewish, is super interesting, informative and there’s no better way to learn about a new culture than immersing yourself in it in a situation such as summer camp. Living and breathing their daily rituals and routines will give you an entirely different perspective on the way that other cultures live and is super different to the movie portrayal you’re probably expecting!

5. Gain Independence

Flying to a different continent and living and working there for 2+ months alone can be incredibly daunting and nerve-wracking, especially if you’re not a particularly independent person to begin with. However, nothing will help you gain independence more than this experience. You’ll be making new friends, learning new skills and doing a whole lot of adulting which will change you in ways you never expected.

You’ll create memories together that will last forever and you’ll also be able to visit your new friends all over the globe and if you make friends with the local staff then you can keep returning to the country where it all began, any excuse for a holiday!

7. Memories That Will Last A Lifetime

You’ll have some of the best experiences of your life at summer camp whether that’s checking out the local culture, waterskiing, swimming in the lake, laughing until you cry or even the much-anticipated theme day! Most of the memories you will make will be completely unique to the summer camp experience and they’ll be something you cherish and re-tell forever.

While you’re at summer camp you will have the opportunity to learn a new skill or perfect a skill you’ve already been working on. The options available really are endless: pottery, boating, drama, dance, high ropes, mountain climbing and much, much more! You can enjoy these activities when you’re with the campers or even on your days off and most of the time you’ll find yourself having more fun than even some of the campers! Take advantage of this and try as many things as possible in the time that you’re there because you may never be in a situation like it again.
