Going to university is a lifechanging experience with an abundance of pros and cons that need to be weighed up. In order to make the best decision for you here are 10 questions to ask yourself before you go to university.

1. What Course Do I Want To Do?

Picking the right course is one of the most important things about going to university because it sets you up for the rest of your life and career. Is it something you have a strong interest in because you don’t want to get bored and definitely want to enjoy yourself. And is it something you’re good at?

2. How Can I Get the Career I Want?

While a degree is the most common way to make your way to your chosen career path it doesn’t always have to be the only way. Sometimes a degree is not necessary and you could save yourself a lot of time and money by going down a different path. There are internships, apprenticeships, and many work experience opportunities.

3. Am I financially Able To G0?

There is a lot of financial help available to students such as loans, scholarships, and bursaries but this might not be enough for you. It is vital to do your research and look at your funds to ensure you won’t be getting yourself into any difficulties.

4. Do You Want To Live Away From Home?

This comes under choosing the right university for you. Maybe you want to live at home or maybe you don’t. But if you feel you would miss home way too much then maybe don’t go to a uni that is too far away. But if you can’t wait to get away then great!

5. Are You Going To Get a Job While Studying?

A part-time job is a fab way to earn a little something extra. You could do something casual like waitressing or retail or something more tailored towards your career goal like a paid internship that would give you some valuable work experience.

6. Have You Applied To a Good University?

Staying in halls is great because you’re bound to make friends, however, it can be pricey and renting privately could be cheaper. Renting privately with other people is still an option but maybe you want to live alone. There are advantages and disadvantages to all.

10. Is It Something You Definitely Want To Do?

There can be a lot of pressure to go university from your parents, friends, teachers and even the rest of society but it is so important to stay true to yourself and follow your real dreams. Do what is best for you.
