10 Places To Visit In Barcelona Off The Beaten Track

Barcelona is a city with a unique soul, one you have to get to know as if it were a person – one visit is simply not enough. But after you’ve seen all the unmissable highlights, such as the epic Sagrada Familia, you can start to appreciate the less obvious gems of the modernist capital. These are 10 beautiful places to visit in Barcelona!

More than one La Rambla

A few turns into less crowded streets will lead you to the inconspicuous Rambla del Raval in Ciutat Vella, where you will instantly notice Fernando Botero’s unconventional sculpture of a giant cat. Fewer crowds mean you will be able to sit down among a few palm trees in peace, before returning to the busy attractions just a few steps away.

Guell’s pavilions

Marking the beginning of his collaboration with his patron, Eusebi Guell, was the design of his summer home, that can now be admired as the Guell Pavilions. Located in Pedralbes, the complex is perhaps most famous for the intriguing dragon gate and is certainly worth stopping by at.

A hospital like no other

The Hospital de la Santa Creu y Sant Pau, although becoming more of a tourist attraction, is still often omitted as an important landmark. Designed by Domenech and Montaner, the complex is perfect for a lazy stroll on a spring day. The beautifully restored (no longer used) rooms continue the unique architectural trends of the city.

A South American hint

The Latino bars hidden amongst touristy restaurants provide the unique laid back atmosphere an experienced traveler might seek. Just a few minutes from the centre, in the district of Poble Sec, you will surely stumble upon places such as Electropikal – a (surprisingly affordable) feast for the senses – don’t miss it!

Better than city beaches

The beaches in Barcelona, near the city center, are lined with great restaurants and a laid back atmosphere, but in the warmer months, they may get much too hectic. The best thing to do? Go a bit further out, to adjacent beaches, such as Montgat!
