8 Places Around Manchester To Visit For A Weekend

As one of the major cities in the Northwest of England, Manchester has plenty to offer. From quirky restaurants, vibrant nightlife and an absurd variety of events, it’s not difficult to keep yourself busy. While discovering the city, is also worth exploring the places around Manchester. Here is a selection of eight places you can visit for a short weekend or day trip for those Mancunian newbies.  These towns, cities, and localities are no longer than over an hour from Manchester and are easy to get to by coach, train or car. Time to start taking some notes! Here are some great places around Manchester to visit for a weekend, or whenever you want.

Liverpool

The list wouldn’t be complete with Manchester’s rivals, in music and sports, Liverpool. Situated just a 50 minutes ride away, the city is well known for its friendly people and busy life. You can have a walk around the Albert Dock admiring the warehouses and dock buildings, or visit Liverpool One if you feel in the mood for shopping.  One of Liverpool’s highlights is also its influx of brilliant bars, restaurants and indie shops any foodie would love, Bold Street and Matthew Street could be great starts. And, while you are there, don’t forget to drop by at Pier Heat to take a selfie with the iconic Beatles’ statue!

Bolton

Although Bolton doesn’t come to mind when we think about impromptu tourism, this town is definitely worth paying a visit. Priding itself for being one of the UK’s friendliest communities, Bolton offers plenty of heritage and countryside activities and events for all ages.  Just in the heart of the town, the Bolton Museum, Aquarium and Archive can be found. This hub of activity promises plenty material that will make you come back.

Chester

With this massive Tudor-style half-timber building and cobblestone streets, Chester is a looker. But Chester is much more than an eye candy, its ancient walls, Roman theatre, and baths provide the perfect opportunity to learn a bit about history. And if this isn’t your thing, the city has plenty of retail shops and restaurants for you to visit.

Edale

The ideal place for the countryside and outdoors lovers! This charming village has plenty of lovely cottages and picture-perfect landscapes. You can explore and roam the countryside freely and make the most of your time by climbing the iconic Kinder Scout or visiting the village of Castleton, home to the Norman fort Peveril Castle.

Hebden Bridge

This lovely market town is famous for its links to the arts and culture community, and for being the birthplace of a certain Ed Sheeran. It’s many shops and antique markets will keep the fans of craft and candles satisfied and happy. And whenever you find yourself in need of a break, just head down to one of the traditional pubs for a larger.

This coast side town offers a great opportunity for a sunny escapade. You can stroll around the Pier, hire a boat on the Marine Lake or visit Southport’s Pleasureland.

If you are a fan of the dark, cruel romances of Wuthering Highs and Jane Eyre, then Haworth is should be on your to visit list. Famous for being the home of the Brontë sisters, the town boasts history and culture. A visit to the Brontë Parsonage Museum will give you all the information you need on the literature legends.
