8 Outfits That Were Ugly Until Rihanna Decided They Weren’t

We all know that Rihanna can do no wrong especially in fashion, but these trash-turned-treasure outfits are the proof you need to see!

Rihanna dominates everything she does, from make-up, to music, to fashion. Her ‘Fenty’ brand has been killin’ it in the fashion game, and it’s no surprise, considering Rihanna’s keen eye for making clothes cooler than cool – even when they’d be ugly on anyone else.

Here are eight outfits that would have been crucified if Rihanna hadn’t decided otherwise!

1. Molly Godard’s Rio Dress, Fall/Winter 2017

This godforsaken Christmas tree of blue tulle should never have been put on a runway in the first place – but that’s fashion, we guess.

I doubt anyone would have thought this dress could look cool if not for Rihanna’s fashionable third-eye.

2. Virgil Abloh’s Off-White ensemble, Fall 2019

Not that Bella Hadid’s way of modelling (vacant stare, lack of enthusiasm – don’t @ us) does any outfit justice, but we seriously doubt any model could pull of this diaper-looking NASCAR-esque ensemble.

Except for Rih-Rih, of course. She really can make anything look à la mode.

3. Tom Ford’s denim combo, Spring/Summer 2018

Double denim is one of the ultimate fashion faux pas. And while it has been making a comeback with the 80’s revival, no one ever really dares to go this full denim since Justin and Britney at the 2001 AMA’s.

Of course Rihanna is here to do what we all wish wasn’t done 18 years – pulling the off the look, and making it look leagues cooler than it did on runway.

4. Off-White oversized outfit, Spring/Summer 2018

On runway, this outfit looks like a bad 80’s shoulder-pad revival. The pants are just as stiff and shapeless, and the boots are a weird (but “fashionable“) puffer-heel shoe. Just what every woman dreams of having in her closet.

But what looks kinda like a mismatched mess on the runway looks bangin’ on Rihanna. Because of course it does – it’s Rihanna!

5. Luar pinstripe dress, Spring 2018

This deconstructed little number should have been confined to the runway – that is, until Rihanna set her sights on it and decided it was actually kinda cool.

And if she says so, then we guess it is too. Especially with that limited edition Judith Leiber x Alexander Wang clutch (valued at the bargain price of $4,995) by her side.

Fall is the season of fashion, that being said, here are some fashion colours that you can expect to see around this season!

6. Fenty x Puma anorak, Spring 2017

This is a clear raincoat. Literally. It really is nothing more than a tourist staple, the thing you keep in your schoolbag in case it rains while you walk home.

Yet, to Rih, it’s an ultra-cool piece that she designed and stuck in her Fenty x Puma collection. Of course, she rocks it. She makes us wanna rock it too, but we all know this a look only Rihanna could pull off.

7. Yves St Laurent’s red cape, Spring/Summer 2017

This should be an impossible look to wear, but why would Rihanna ever let that stop her? Though it channels some serious 70’s op-shop fur on runway, it looks nothing less than a must-have accessory when hanging from Rihanna’s shoulders.

It seems that no matter what, Rihanna’s effortless cool cannot be crippled by the ugly of any oversized cape.

8. Alberta Ferretti’s blue dress, Spring 2017

This is a look stolen Rih stole from a milkmaid on her way to the farm, donned for the ‘Wild Thoughts’ music video, and transformed it into tropic-cool.

Seriously, it doesn’t matter how shit it might look to us – Rihanna just as an eye for fashion that surpasses regular folks. And it’s really not that surprising, since we’re pretty sure Rih-Rih is a literal goddess, right?
