I think its easy to say that Beyoncé is easily one of the biggest stars of our time, and what makes her so amazing is the fact that she is able to constantly outdo herself. She has set herself a very high standard, but is always excelling herself and her peers, and this comes through very clearly in her live performances. So, when I found out that she was going to be headlining Coachella, my squeal of excitement was inaudible. I watched her performance while wearing my flower crown (in true Coachella fashion) waiting for what she had in store for her fans. Here’s everything you need to know about the Beyonce Coachella performance.
Destiny’s Child being reunited for a three-song medley for this performance was everything we wanted and more. The silver sparkling outfits in the second week performance blinded us as they ruled the stage once again. Hopefully we won’t be waiting so long for their next performance together.
Fans were delighted to see Jay Z come on stage to perform “Déjà vu” with his wife; in the second week performance Beyoncé wore a stunning fuchsia outfit to match her backing dancers. Another family member ended up making an appearance on stage during her performance to compete in a dance off, Solange. Despite Beyoncé and Solange falling on each other on stage as Bey tried to pick her sister up, they both still acted professional, laughed it off and carried on. It’s nice to be reminded that Beyoncé is also human, and can make a fool of herself too. Another surprise that Bey threw in was having J Balvin perform with her for “Mi Gente” in the second week performance. She’s the superstar that keeps on giving.
These covers were a nod to who inspired her throughout her childhood, including Dawn Penn’s “You Don’t Love Me” and Nina Simone’s “Lilac Wine”. Just to make her performance even more revolutionary, she performed a mix of her own song “Freedom” and “Lift Every Voice and Sing” which is known as being the Black National Anthem. There was also more nods to Black history through her theme, which was a recreation of the historically black college experience.
Each of the Beyonce Coachella performances were amazing, and managed to keep us on our toes by adding some surprises into her second performance. Like I said, she will constantly exceed her own standards. She’s the first black woman to headline the festival, and she made history with her outstanding performance. We can completely agree with DJ Khalid’s rename of the festival to Beychella, and I’m excited to see how she’ll top that performance in the future.
