Although Lincoln is one of the smaller cities in Britain it does consist of some tourist-appealing historic elements like The Lincoln Castle and The Cathedral. However, even though Lincoln City’s features are popular for travellers, are they really worth the trip to Lincoln? Here’s a few places that could be considered as well-known but also very overrated.
Lincoln Cathedral is the number one selling point for most tourists to visit Lincoln with it’s picturesque interior and grounds; However, is the famous building appealing to everyone? With it’s £8 (Adult) and £4.80 (Child) entry fees is there really something for the whole family to do?
Unless there is an exhibit underway then a younger audience wouldn’t be entertained the same as history buffs who are happy to admire stain glass windows and architecture. The Lincoln Cathedral although beautiful doesn’t really offer a lot and for the price, is quite expensive and isn’t an ideal place to visit for a day out with the family.
We all know of Lincoln’s ridiculously sharp hill that runs up the top of the city centre and boy, is it steep! Although along the hill there are medieval attractions such as the Jew’s House and Jew’s Court and some really great vintage shops it’s really in all honesty a cardio work out, especially if you’re in those 4 inch heels walking to that bar!
This is one for the party animals; Lincoln’s Home Nightclub. Having three dance floor’s featuring different genres of music, two areas to sit down and chill and one VIP lounge for that special occasion Home can offer a good night out. Nonetheless, if you’re wanting to spend your Saturday night searching for your friends on all five floors then maybe somewhere slightly less crowded and smaller is the place for you.
Chain restaurants in Lincoln like everywhere seem to be the most popular places to eat for students and members of the public but like most venues in Lincoln they seem to always have a queue out the door or are just overly crowded to the point even the waitress can’t hear your order.
Of course places like Wagamamas and Nandos do serve some good grub but there are some hidden gems in the city where you will get served faster and won’t need to shout at your Friday night date. For instance, The Swan Holme; even though it isn’t smack bang in the middle of the city it bares a cosy atmosphere with comforting home-made food.
Although not a place, Lincoln’s Christmas markets are in the heart of the city every year for three days. The markets are a great place for independent companies to sell their handmade and unique products. They also sell food such as the infamous and pretty delicious Yorkshire Pudding Wraps and not to mention the Hog Roasts that go down a treat. They started with eleven stalls and have really progressed since but are these markets all they are hyped up to be?
From the road closures causing havoc to the local residents wanting to return home after work and it being a nightmare getting from stall to stall the markets are maybe more of a stressful experience for anybody attending Lincoln’s Christmas Markets.
