Maybelline Tattoo Brow Gel: What You Should Know

The world has become obsessed with the perfect eyebrows. The perfect brow has been thing, fluffy, thick, dark, light, and even un-plucked; and now it has resorted to being permanent. I am obsessed with big brows. If you weren’t born with them, makeup can transform the look of even the sparsest set into thicker looking, bolder looking beauties which is a miracle. But with busy mornings and long days leaving no time for touch-ups, wouldn’t it be great if there was a more permanent solution? Well, there just may be. Maybelline has created a new product called Maybelline Tattoo Brow Gel!

Everybody wants perfect brows and I am sure you can all agree how much of a pain it is to draw on your eyebrows and maintain them every day. Some people have decided to get their eyebrows tattooed while other have opted for the les permanent micro blading; all in hope to not have to attempt your eyebrows every day. There are over 73k Instagram posts tagged with #semipermanentbrows, and microblading treatments have risen in popularity by 15% this year. WOW. Of course there is also the option of eyebrow tinting, but more often than not this only tints the hairs and lasts a few days. Not to mention the cost of going to a salon to get them tinted. We want a tint that tints the skin so we don’t have to do our brows on a daily basis.

What is it?

Maybelline Tattoo Brow Gel is a gel which hardens to a peel off tint.  Peel off tints have become really popular in Asia and now Maybelline’s Tattoo Brow Peel-Off Tint brings this popular Korean beauty trend to the UK, giving us an at-home, hassle-free option for perfectly on point, semi-permanent brows.

According to Maybelline it is a “semi-permanent makeup that helps you achieve fuller looking brows without the effort of daily makeup application for up to three days. It’s a perfect time saver, allowing you to wake up with more flawless brows. Whether you’re heading to work, dancing all night or hitting the gym – there’s no need to apply extra products for up to three days.”

How does it work?

TOP TIPS:  Prepare: Cleanse and exfoliate to remove dead skin cells and any other leftover product. To do this use a spoolie brush (mascara wand),and comb your brow hairs upwards to get the perfect shape for your dreamy brows.

Perfect & Maintain: Your brows are good to go, but for added power, brush through a fibre brow mascara or brow powder to thicken hairs and set the look.

Advice: To get your semi-permanent eyebrows to last, we recommend staying away from harsh cleansers and exfoliators.

1. Apply:

Designed for thick application, use the brush to carefully paint the peel-off eyebrow tint on in your desired shape. Be sure to cover all areas evenly, and for a truly natural look, fade out the coverage with a spoolie brush at the front of your brows. Simply tidy up any mistakes using a cotton bud to smooth the tint away.

2. Set:

For one day of wear, leave to set for 20 minutes. If you’re after super long-lasting results (up to 3 days), leave it on for 2 hours.

3. Reveal:

Use your fingers to slowly peel the eyebrow tattoo off. Start at the inner corners of your brows and gently pull in the direction of hair growth. You’ll be left with natural-looking tint effect. Whip the spoolie brush through your brows once again to tidy them up.

Is it for real?

Personally I don’t agree with Maybelline when they say “there’s no need to apply extra products for up to three days.” This is because I found myself still shaping my brows with an eyebrow pencil, as the gel doesn’t really define the edges.  Although they do say you can add powder or extra gel for power brows so I think they know it isn’t perfect for everyone.

Pros:

  • Tints hairs and skin
  • Good colour match
  • Dry’s quickly
  • Get a lot of application from one tube
  • Easy to correct mistakes
  • Does actually make your brows look dark and thick

Cons:

  • Peels off in little bits
  • Hard to apply evenly to both brows
  • Have to leave on for longer than suggested for good coverage
  • Still have to wear makeup and/or define them
  • Only comes in 3 shades (If you have black brows sorry you’ll have to use brown)

So what is the verdict? Well, yes it will tint your brows and is more cost effective then going to a salon to get them tinted. Yes, it tints skin and hairs. But it is a proper fiddle and a faff to do. If you are going to use Maybelline Tattoo brow gel then  recommend putting it on before bed and sleeping in it for the best outcome. Then you don’t have to worry about not going out in the day as you have black slugs setting on your forehead. You ca wake up, peel it off, and be ready for the next 3 days.
