Master Glitter Eyeshadow: Step By Step Instructions
Have you ever tried to use glitter eyeshadow and it’s just ended up looking like a hot mess? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there sister! In this article, I’ll be explaining how to do glitter eyeshadow like a pro, with step by step instructions.
Step 1: Choose the right colours for you
You want to choose colours that will complement your eye colour. For example, if you are a blue-eyed babe, you want to go for warm tones such as bronze, copper, coral, etc. If you’re a brown eyed beauty, consider yourself lucky, because you can rock pretty much any eyeshadow colour! The trick here is to choose colours that will complement your skin and hair colour as well. Purples and teals generally look the best on brown eyes.
Step 2: Start by priming the eyelids
You want to have a good, tacky base for your eyeshadows and your glitter. This will ensure your eyeshadow stays put all night long. One of my personal favourites is MAC Cosmetics Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Soft Ochre. Pack your primer/concealer on your eyelid and blend it out with your finger or a damp beauty sponge. If you tend to have oily eyelids, it might be worth setting your concealer with a translucent powder or an eyeshadow the same colour as your concealer/primer.
Step 3: Apply your transition shade
Your transition shade is a shade you use to blend your other eyeshadows together. I typically use a lighter version of my crease colour. For this eye look, you want to blend your transition shade into your crease, from the inner corner to the outer.
Step 4: Darken up that crease!
You may have to use multiple eyeshadows to darken up your crease, depending on how dark you want to go. Be sure to build up your colours to get that nice gradient effect, rather than going right in with your darker colour.
Step 5: Apply your shimmer shade over the lid and your inner corner highlight
Using your finger or a flat brush, apply your shimmer shade all over the lid. You want this colour to be the same or very similar to your glitter colour (as our glitter is going to be placed over the top of this shade). Be sure to blend your shimmer shade with your crease colour for a seamless look. You can also take a lighter shimmer shade or your highlighter to highlight your inner corner. This just helps the eyes look more open and gives them a bit of a pop!
Step 6: Apply glitter glue
Finally, prepping for our glitter. Take a glitter glue, like NYX Glitter Primer, and lightly apply it over our shimmer shade on the lid. Be sure to be quick with the next step as some glitter glues dry fairly quickly.
Step 7: Apply your glitter
Now onto the real deal! Beware, this can get messy, especially if you’re working with loose glitter. What I like to do is place tissues under my eyes to catch any fall out glitter. Take your glitter on either your finger or an eyeshadow brush and gently pack it onto your glitter glue.
Step 8: Add your final touches
Now you can add your final touches to this glitter eyeshadow look, such as adding your crease colour to your lower lash line, mascara, false lashes and/or a black winged liner. Perfection!
