A breakfast that not only looks mouthwatering delicious but is also very beneficial for our health. Packed full of antioxidants, natural ingredients and superfoods, they help with our immune systems, our health inside and out, and improve our skin and hair – “I’ll take 10!”. Acai bowls typically include all berry-goodness and fruit-freshness; berries, yoghurts, seeds & nuts, and well, whatever you’re heart desires. Somewhat like a fruity smoothie with a bit more texture and a crunch. These have blown up our Instagram’s with beautifully bright coloured bowls from all across the world and everyone is jumping on the hype; for both their Insta game and of course… health. Here are some recipes, ideas and inspo to make your very own at home acai bowls just like out fave-grammers…
Acai bowls are conventionally added with coconut, almonds, cashews and any sort of nut imaginable. However, there are many people who cannot eat nuts, or purely just don’t like the taste of them. So, an alternative acai bowl for us ‘nut-free-please’ people, is a pure fruity acai bowl. By using a blender to blend together a handful of strawberries, watermelon, raspberries and ice, and then poured into a bowl will give you a perfect fruity base for your bowl. Simply chop up your fav fruits and place on top of the fruit puree. Voila, it really is that simple!
Although maybe not the number 1 healthiest acai bowl about, this one is for those days we have a little sweet tooth and need a lil extra treat for our Monday morning start. By simply blending together 3/4 of our favourite fruits and adding a tablespoon (or 2, shhh) of cocoa powder will give you that ‘healthy-chocolate’ taste we all can’t say no to. Again, add to a bowl and add your favourite toppings on the top; strawberries, chocolate chips, coconut chips, sunflower seeds.
We all love peanut butter, so there is nothing better than having one of our favourite healthy brekkie’s that includes peanut butter, right? This one will cure any bad-cravings or sweet-tooth desires. Put together your favourite fruit base – either blueberries, coconut, strawberries, watermelon – and add a tablespoon of peanut butter to the puree. Again, add your favourite toppings and add a scoop or peanut butter to top it off.
Honey is a great and healthier alternative to satisfy those sugar cravings. Again, create your own favourite puree base, topped with your favourite fruits and nuts and glaze a light amount of honey over the top for that sweeter-treat!
You either love or hate coconuts, and although it can be a taste we aren’t always fond of, it is great for our health and can hardly be tasted in an acai bowl. Adding your fave base and adding a variety of berries, fruits, nuts and seeds and a light layer of coconut shavings will give your body that boost ahead of the day! You’ll just want to stare at these at home acai bowls, they look that good!
We want it all when it comes to acai bowls – the more the merrier after all! If you are a fruit lover and want to add it all, then why not? Adding whatever fruit you have in the fridge will sure help towards your five-a-day while tasting bloody delicious!
Mango is a very refreshing fruit, and as these warmer days are finally making an appearance, there is nothing better than consuming a bunch of fresh fruits as if we were laying on the beach sipping margaritas. Adding a mixture of mango, pineapples, grapefruits and berries into a puree and adding chopped mango with coconut, seeds and nuts will give you the illusion you’re sitting on a tropical island – ahhhh. These at home acai bowls wil leave you craving more!
Apple’s can sometimes be a little boring too eat right? But by adding them and consuming them filled within our delicious acai bowls makes it an easier way to eat them. Acai bowls always look so elaborate and as if they are hard to re-create, however, as long as your favourite fruits are adding into a blender and chopped up, it is easy for anyone to make!
One of our all-time favourite desserts, mostly on those ‘cheat days’ and ‘oh, f-it, I deserve a treat’ moments. However, it is super easy to recreate a healthy alternative for the banana split we can eat in the morning without feeling any guilt! FINALLY.
Nobody has the time or brain cells at 6 am to decide what to have for breakfast, so we have a tendency to grab the closest thing in our proximately that takes no time at all. If you are a cereal eater in the mornings but getting a little sick of the same thing, and wanting to consume healthier foods, a great way to corporate both is a cereal X acai bowl. By creating a perfect fruity base with your favourite fruits and sprinkling of fruits, nut, seeds and your fav cereal will give you the best of both worlds.
