You’ve heard of London Fashion week and perhaps you’ve heard of UK Plus Size Fashion Week, but what about London Modest Fashion Week? If you’re a modest fashion follower or are completely new to the concept, here’s all you need to know about London Modest Fashion Week.
Starting in 2017, London Modest Fashion Week was founded by designer Haute Elan as a way for modest fashion designers to showcase their creations on the catwalk. It has come at the perfect time, as interest in modern and modest fashion has grown rapidly in the UK over recent years.
The term has a range of definitions, each unique to the clothes wearer, but in general modest fashion means covering up, on purpose, to various levels and can be due to religious beliefs or otherwise. Essentially, modest fashion is for anyone who wants to cover themselves up, whatever their motivation to do so, yet still look fashionable!
The event was held in February of this year and was a complete success, garnering attention from everyone from Vogue to the Daily Mail. Throughout the week, seminars are held for discussions based around modest fashion including ‘The Role of Influencers in Young Women’s Lives’ and ‘Commodification of Religion and Trends in Modern Fashion’.
LMFW showcases designers from all over the globe and strives to showcase the best of modest fashion, to encourage its international growth. The catwalk shows aim to disregard any cliches or negative connotations around the concept of modest fashion and they so show by exhibiting some of the most stylish and innovative clothes you’ve ever seen. London Modest Fashion Week is a real trailblazer event – make sure you make it there next year!
