London is truly a glorious city, with everything it has to offer – from the variety of cultural specialties from all over the world to the vast choice of entertainment to, of course, a lively nightlife. There’s quite a lot to say about London nightlife; it can simultaneously be the most fun you’ll ever have, or the worst night of the whole year, depending on where you’re going and what you’re looking for.
So here are the pros, and cons of London nightlife!
You can find clubs, bars and similar locations all over the city. There’s a lot of them clustered together in specific locations – for example, there’s a lot of clubs around Chinatown – but even with that taken into account, you can find at least a couple of bars and pubs in most, if not all areas. Londoners like their drinks. So that’s a definite pro. Try going to Tonight Josephine Club; 39A Hoxton Square, Hoxton, London, N1 6NN!
London nightlife is costly. A lot (but not all) places take an entry fee; four shots of (cheap) vodka will cost you almost the equivalent of buying your own bottle of that same vodka in a Sainsbury’s across the street – and that’s talking about relatively cheaper places. At a good bar situated central, cocktails might cost you around £15.
It’s your own choice, of course, but pre-drinks are preferable. Check out Scarfes Bar; Rosewood London, 252 High Holborn, Holborn, London, WC1V 7EN!
Are you into burlesque? Something more sexual, perhaps? Or, on the contrary, something more innocent and involving a dress code? Maybe you’re the kind of person who prefers to sit casually with a drink while jazz is playing in the background?
Regardless of what your preferences are, London nightlife has got you covered. You obviously have to google up some places – and sometimes book tables – in advance, but that shouldn’t be much of a problem if you plan just a tiny bit in advance.
If you go to the cheaper, less chic and/or central places, you have to always be on your guard. I had friends spiked in local bars around my university; people can just grab you while you’re dancing and start trying to make out with you; they’ll see that you’re drunk and try to get you to leave with them even if they see you’re not thinking clearly…
It’s unpleasant, and often even dangerous. If you’re trying to check out all different London nightlife kinds and locations, beware. And always watch your purse, of course. But that’s common knowledge.
If you want to just go alone, have a drink, get a tiny bit tipsy and dance by yourself – you’re free to do that. Despite what I said in the previous point, people do tend to leave you alone if you tell them to; just don’t get drunk out of your mind if you’re going out alone.
And, on the contrary, London nightlife allows you to have a sick time with a large group of friends, as long as all of you have your IDs; most locations are quite spacious and provide seating. Try going to Tiger Tiger London; 29 Haymarket, London, SW1Y 4SP!
Maybe that’s the impression of someone from Russia, like me – because here in London all clubs start closing up around the same time when the fun just starts in Russia. The latest the clubs are open here until is 3 am, with the usual closing time being around 1 am, and I realise that saying that it’s early for things to close up at this time may sound ridiculous, but it is annoying when you go out for a Saturday night. Try going to G-A-Y Bar; 30 Old Compton St, Soho, London, W1D 4UR!
