If you’ve never been to Liverpool, you may wonder what exactly the pull factor of this amazing city is. However, if you have been, chances are you know exactly what makes Liverpool so amazing. Here are just a few reasons why Liverpool is the best city ever.
Nowhere else in the world has an accent – or slang – like Scousers. Granted, sometimes people who don’t hail from Merseyside don’t understand them, but that’s a small price to pay to have what is arguably the most interesting accent around. The slang is out of this world too, whether it’s calling something antwacky (old), plazzy (fake) or sound (good), Scoucers have a way of saying things that doesn’t compare to anything else. Plus, everyone loves Korean Billy for teaching the world about their fantastic way of speaking.
Where else in the world could you walk around and see a multitude of sculptures of a cross between a lamb and a banana? Nowhere but Liverpool! The Lambananas started because of the Superlambanana, a 17ft tall, 8 ton bright yellow sculpture designed by Taro Chiezo for the 1998 ArtTransPennine Exhibition. In 2008, when Liverpool was named Capital of Culture, 125 miniature Lambananas were made and spread out all across the city. Sponsored by various local organisations and businesses, they were all decorated in different ways and can still be seen across the city today.
Everyone loves a healthy bit of competition, and in Liverpool we have that in spades – look no further than the fact that we’ve got two football teams in the same area. Whether you’re a red or a blue (I’m a blue), you’re bound to be fiercely loyal to your team and get extra bristly around fans of the opposite team around derby day. Regardless, no matter what team you think is best, it’s hard to come by a rivalry quite like this one.
One thing you’re guaranteed to see when you come to Liverpool is some absolutely stunning buildings. Whether it’s St George’s Hall, either of the two Cathedrals or the Albert Dock, you’re sure to see some absolutely breathtaking architecture. The city is so full of these stunning sights that one thing to do there is to just take a walking tour and simply look at all the different types of architecture around Liverpool – from completely modern to very much old-fashioned. there really is something for everyone.
Lest be real, Liverpool is the absolute best for churning out some of the best musical acts of the past decades. The Beatles, The Las, The Wombats, Cilla Black and many more all started and became famous in Liverpool. There’s tons of other celebs that had their start in Liverpool, like Jason Isaacs of Harry Potter fame, not to mention the amount of sports stars that which just goes to show that Liverpool is full of amazing, talented people. This is one of the many reasons that Liverpool is the best city ever.
Liverpool was named Capital of Culture in 2008 and it’s easy to see why. The city itself is absolutely jam-packed with amazing things to see and do, like the Tate Modern, The Royal Albert Dock and the Museum of Liverpool. There’s so many things it would be difficult to go and see them all in one day, which just goes to show how rich in culture Liverpool is. This is why Liverpool is the best city ever.
