Everyone has some things they want to achieve in their lives. I have certain dreams and certain ambitions. At 22, I can happily and proudly say I’m on my way to achieving most of my ambitions. But some of my dreams remain yet unfulfilled, and I hope to fulfil them all in the years to come. Here are 20 things I want to do before I turn 30
I know four languages fluently. In the past two years, I’ve already taken the first steps and learnt two new languages, French and Spanish (up to a conversational level at least). But I’d like to learn another new language before I turn 30. Maybe the tough-to-learn Mandarin or Korean. I don’t know which language I want to learn just yet, but I definitely want to learn one.
A big ambition, I know, but I’d really like to travel the world, or at least see parts of it before I turn 30. I keep putting it off, whether it’s for financial reasons or that exam I need to pass or that job I need to get. The reasons for putting it off are quite practical and reasonable, but one day (hopefully in the near future) I’d really like to throw caution to the wind and just board that plane and go wherever I please.
Ever since I’ve been in school I’ve dreamt of getting a stable job, that can help me support and provide for the family that gave me everything I needed. I’ve dreamt of doing a job that gives me joy, that motivates me to wake up every morning. Now having discovered my passion for writing, and working hard on gaining experience at it, I think I may be on the road to finding that job.
I am currently an international student at university. Having gotten a taste of living abroad, I’d really to settle abroad with my family. I want to build a life that I love wherever I may be living.
I’m quite lazy, and a homebody through and through. But I also enjoy a good rush of adrenaline. I’m always the one with hands in the air, screaming with joy on a roller coaster, so It’s on my bucket list to try out at least one (maybe even more) adventure sport. Bungee jumping, sky diving, snorkelling. I want to experience it all before I turn 30.
People tell me I’m quite badass, so I’ve always wanted to add to it and try to learn a martial art. It’ll help keep me fit and I’d be super cool and super safe, so why not?
I’ve always picked up a guitar, learnt a little and then forgotten about it. I’d love to properly learn to play the guitar, and maybe even learn a new instrument.
I’m quite shy when it comes to singing in front of people. I want to let go of my inhibitions and scream a song into a mic for my own enjoyment, at least once in my life.
I already have two tattoos and four piercings (two on each ear), and I want more! I’m quite picky about the tattoos I get so I won’t be covering my body in the art form, but I definitely want a few more tattoos, and at least one more piercing. I just need to figure what design to go for, and I’m set.
I’ve always been quite tame about the hair colour I choose. It’s always the browns and reds. I do it because I believe brighter colours won’t suit me. But I want to just go for it and rock some pink, blue or purple hair. It’s hair, so if It turns out not to be my colour, I’ll just change it back!
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I love staying in. Home is my comfort place. And I don’t believe there’s anything wrong with that. But I’d really love to get more active and try more outdoor activities; maybe horse riding, maybe a sport, maybe even just taking more walks. The choices are endless.
Hopefully part of travelling the world, I want to try as many different cuisines as I possibly can. I wouldn’t call myself a foodie, but I enjoy the cultural and culinary experience of trying exotic and new food that tingles my taste buds.
I’m a whiskey girl. It’s my drink of choice, and though I’ve tried other varieties of alcohol, I haven’t tried them all. So I’d love a chance to taste and enjoy the different kinds of alcohol before I turn 30.
I live alone, and I’m lazy. So safe to say, most meals come out of a box. It’s not that can’t cook at all. I can definitely manage the basics, but I would love to make more of the meals I eat, and maybe even add a few notches to my culinary skills.
My mum recently taught me how to play Rummy, and I love it. Vegas has always been a faraway dream. So I’d love to make it a reality and try my hand at gambling at least once. Definitely, don’t want to make it a habit to carry over to my 30s though!
I’ve grown up without a pet. I’ve always craved the innocent love and loyalty that comes with having a pet. So providing a home to a puppy that needs it would be a dream come true for me. And if I have a dog, I might as well go ahead and get myself a cat as well. We’d be one happy family, and I can’t wait.
Writing is my biggest passion. It keeps me going when hard times hit. It’s always been a silly, and often pushed aside desire in me to write a proper book. I’ve always been too afraid to go for it, but I hope that I’ll be able to write or at least make a beginning to the book that I’ve always wanted to write.
I am not socially awkward. I can carry a conversation, make it and keep it interesting. But I am by no means an extrovert. I prefer alone time, and silences more than large groups. And that’s fine. But becoming more outgoing, going out and meeting new people. Becoming comfortable with extroversion is something I’d love to achieve before I turn 30.
I love my family and spend a lot of time with them already. They are my best friends. But life gets busy, I get busy and so do they. I would love for us to put aside some time for each other. I want to make lasting memories with my family, and make sure I never take them for granted.
I’m currently in a phase of self-learning. I’m discovering myself, and navigating relationships, studies and a whole lot more. I am still learning to love myself. To accept myself for who I am, and I hope that by the time I’m in my 30s, I have reached a point in my life where self-love comes naturally to me.
