Kitchen Hacks For The Dorm Room

Dorm room kitchens are tiny, which means that you don’t often feel too inspired to cook. There’s no room and then the same annoyance applies when it comes to the clean up as well. Try out these dorm room kitchen hacks to hopefully make your cooking experience a little more easy and fun. You will feel like a master chef every day with these tools!

Pasta Cooker

If you are like me and despise cleaning large pots and pans in the tiny little dorm room sink, then this will be your fav as well! This may be news to you because it was certainly news to me, you can buy pasta cookers for the microwave… I know it blew my mind too. Basically, it is a container that you fill with pasta and water, pop it in the microwave and you are done. T

he only clean up you will have is a little container. It takes a fraction of the time and very little space! This is a lifesaver for me, I definitely recommend getting your hands on one of these if you spot one next time you are out and about. This a great hack that everyone should know about in the dorm room kitchen!

Rice Cooker

This may seem like basic info to some of you, but it has occurred to me that some people are not on the rice cooker train yet. If this is you, all I can say is, change that ASAP. Rice cookers are the easiest, cleanest and best way to cook rice. Don’t be using the old pot on the stove method, that is ridiculous.

You can get one of these in just about any homewares shop, and you can get them super cheap! Plug it in, pop in your rice and water, and walk away. There is no risk of burning it or it boiling over and making a mess. It is the best little hack that everyone needs to have right now!

Microwave Cake Tins

There are a number of little cake tins that are designed to be cooked in the microwave. Basically, these cake tins are saving you time and clean up. The purpose of these is to mix your batter in this plastic tin and then pop it in the microwave and it will take care of the rest. There is no need for an oven, which many dorm kitchens don’t have.

But just because you don’t have an oven doesn’t mean you can’t miss out on baking your favourite sweet treats. You can purchase these, not just for cakes, but for brownies too! What more could you want! This is a really cool hack you should try out.

Bacon Cooker

If you live in a dorm that has an incredibly sensitive fire alarm, then this is the one for you! Frying bacon can be dangerous around a sensitive fire alarm. So! If you want to avoid the smoke and the splatter, but still want to enjoy a crispy piece of bacon, try and get your hands on a microwave bacon cooker. These are super easy to find online.

The design of the tool allows for all sides of the bacon to get crispy and cooked while keeping any possible splatter contained in your microwave. Minimal cleanup and no risk of setting off the fire alarm. This is a must-have for all the bacon lovers out there, have this little baby cooking away in the microwave while you cook your eggs. Breakfast will be done in no time!

Are you excited to get cooking now? Let us know which of these kitchen hacks you will be trying out in your dorm room! We would love to hear from you!
