10 Kitchen Essentials You Will Need In Your Cupboard When Moving Into Your Uni Home

When moving into your first house in university it may be difficult to remember what you need to complete your kitchen cupboard. But don’t fear, this list will get you more than prepared to move into your new home. You’ll make all your house mates jealous when you show them what is inside your cupboard. From practical to fun, these little gems will make you the most popular cupboard in the house.

1. A fancy mug

Everyone has their favourite mug, and it is important that you carry on this tradition at university. You and your mug will go through a lot at uni and having a fave mug means that you don’t have to share. It will see you through some horrible hangovers, heartbreaks and may even be used for a game of ring of fire. It will go through the wars and may even get some scars from it, but a mug is a mug and it carries the best of hot beverages – a need through university – caffeine!

2. Paper Cups

The best way to make friends at uni is through drinking games. Getting a little tipsy together will create a bond like no other. But to do this – you need to provide some drinking cups. There is nothing worse than washing up at uni, it honestly causes rows, so to minimise this (and reduce the plastic found in our oceans) grab some plastic cups and you’ll be on your way to making the most out of your uni experience.

3. Distinctive Patterned Plates and Bowls

It may be slightly more expensive to do this, but when you understand the washing up war, you’ll look back on this article and thank the fact you got your own separate plates and bowls that you know are your own. Plus, no one else will use your stuff on the sly, because you’ll know! As well as all this, funky plates are a very good accessory to your cupboard and they will make every meal a joy.

4. Frying Pan

Of course, you can not cook properly without a frying pan. But with the likes of a frying pan, you need to get a really good one. Non-stick is the best place to start, and big enough to cook for one person but small enough to fit in the small amount of storage space there is at uni. Your frying pan, much like your mug, will hopefully see you through how many years you are at uni and will be your go-to for a quick and easy meal.

5. Saucepan

This item is a true kitchen essential for all the super noodles you will consume over the years you are at university. Unlike at home, you don’t need different sizes and as before, you have little space in the kitchen cupboard for all your things. It makes sense to get a pan that is the right size for one portion and will fit in the cupboard you are assigned.

6. Coffee

Caffeine will be your saviour while you are at university, the late nights and early mornings call for coffee. Why spend money on Starbucks when you can buy a really good brand of coffee to last you a lot longer for the same price? If you don’t like coffee then any other hot beverage will do the trick and it will look amazing in your fancy mug! Also, it’s a really nice peace offering being able to offer someone a cup of coffee and it will guarantee to make you friends.

7. Scissors

You will be surprised how handy a pair of scissors come in at university. Whether it’s cutting paper, creating a fancy dress outfit for freshers, or cutting a pizza because no one bought a pizza cutter – they are a lifesaver. This is the one kitchen essential that most people forget, so I would bring a few pairs, you may find that one or two go missing and end up in someone else’s cupboard.

8. Zoflora

If you haven’t discovered Zoflora yet, where have you been? It is the most amazing smelling disinfectant you can buy on the high street. It is antibacterial so you can use it to clean surfaces, water it down and was the floor with it, and water it down in a spray bottle and use as an anti back spray, it is really diverse. It is highly concentrated so a little goes a long way, and it is normally found for less than £2! A bargain which will leave even the worst of uni houses smelling fresh and clean.
