5 Kind Things You Can Do Which Will Make Someone’s Day
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just feel like making someone’s day. We’re often so busy looking after ourselves and our own interests in life that we forget about the people around us, and at the end of the day, life’s tough for everyone. People are always going through emotionally draining situations but we don’t always know about them – we’re often very good at putting on brave faces. While it would be impossible to solve everybody’s issues in life, we can at least attempt to ease them by doing something kind to make someone’s day. It really doesn’t have to be anything big, just something guaranteed to put a smile on another human’s face. Here are some ideas to get you started!
1. Make Someone You Love Breakfast
Because who doesn’t love a full English? Why not give your loved one a brilliant start to their day by cooking them a hearty breakfast to eat in bed; if they’re not a fan of cooked breakfasts, you could always opt for pancakes or scrambled egg on toast instead. Anyway, it really doesn’t matter what you make because it’s the thought behind it that counts, and I guarantee the lucky receiver won’t be able to resist smiling for the rest of the day. Start their day off how you wish it to go on!
2. Express Gratitude
This is such an easy way of making someone’s day, but most of us don’t take the time to do it often enough. Expressing gratitude is supposed to have a very positive effect on both the person saying thank you and the person being thanked, and being so mutually beneficial surely makes it an absolute no-brainer. Whether you want to write a letter to your mum thanking her for raising you so well or send a text to your friend thanking them for always being there, it really won’t take much time out of your day. Besides, feeling happy and feeling appreciated come hand in hand!
3. Pay For The Person After You
I’ve always loved this idea, and I’m definitely going to give it a try one day soon. One of the more unexpected ways of making someone’s day, it’s as easy as paying for the person queuing behind you at Starbuck’s, or buying an extra ticket at a parking meter so that the next person doesn’t have to worry. It’s a small token, and the other person doesn’t even have to know it was you who was so generous, but you’ll feel great knowing that you’ve done such a kind deed for someone else. I’m sure the other person will be truly touched by your generosity.
4. Compliment Someone
Similarly to expressing gratitude, this is a sure way of making someone’s day. Think about the last time you were complimented – maybe someone told you your hair looked nice or asked you where you got your shoes from – and try to remember the immediate buzz that came with it. Wouldn’t you want someone else to feel this too? Whilst we unfortunately live in a world where people are often quick to put other people down, this a sure way of doing the exact opposite and actually bringing others up. A self-esteem boost, no matter how small, is certainly guaranteed to make someone’s day.
5. Cook A Meal For A Hospital Visitor
If you’re unfortunate enough to have spent a lot of time in hospitals in your life then you’ll know how tedious the waiting game can get. We often don’t want to leave the sides of those we care about, so completely forget about things like food until our stomachs start to compete with the volume of the hospital equipment. If you can ever spare any time, it would be a lovely idea to bring in a goody bag for the people who spend hours on end waiting for potentially bad news. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but it will make someone’s day knowing that they don’t have to leave their chair unnecessarily.
