Skin tone can determine whether a lot of things look good on you: makeup and hair colour are some examples. But did you know that your skin tone can also affect how good certain jewelry will look on you? For the most flattering jewelry choices, read on to find what kind of jewelry you should be wearing based on your skin tone.
Before you choose your jewelry, it’s best to determine what kind of undertone you have. There are three kinds of undertone: cool, warm and neutral. It’s pretty easy to determine what kind of undertone you have by looking at the colours of your veins. If you have blue or purple veins, you’re cool toned; if you have green veins you’re warm toned; if you have a mix, then you have a neutral undertone.
Once you’ve got your undertone sorted, you can move onto the next step of finding your actual skin tone. These usually follow a range that goes fair, light, light-medium, medium, olive, medium-tan, deep, dark, rich. It’s helpful to use the categories of your foundation to find your skin tone.
Stick to silver or white gold. Rose gold can accentuate pink undertones in fair skin, while yellow gold can make your skin look a bit sallow. Stick to cool toned jewelry for an overall fresh look. This is especially true if you have blonde hair or light eyes. This is definitely the jewelry you should be wearing based on your skin tone!
You’re pretty blessed as you can get away with pretty much any combination of metals on your skin! Olive tones usually have neutral undertones, so whether you go for yellow gold, white gold or rose gold tones, it will all complement your skin tone.
Most jewelry will look striking against your skin tone, so you can pretty much get away with anything. However, some dainty silver jewelry may get lost against your skin tone. For a really flattering, glowing look, opt for yellow gold tones.
If you have quite light skin and warm, golden undertones, yellow gold tones will look really great against your skin. If you would like to counteract your warm tones but still have a fresh glow, rose gold jewelry also works well.
According to jewelry designer Charlotte Blakeney, no matter what shade your skin is, if you have warm, honey tones in your skin you’ll be able to pull off most colours of jewelry. You can even mix metals and it will still look striking against your skin tone!
Your hair colour and eye colour will affect your overall colouring, and you may find that certain shades of jewelry flatter your eyes more, or get lost in your hair colour. Your eye colour will also help find out which gemstones are the most flattering on you.
