A lot of people think living in a haunted house sounds fun. Unfortunately, it’s the opposite. Even though I’ve never experienced anything crazy, staying in my house alone overnight can be extremely eerie. I was never scared for my life, thank God, but I’m so glad to be moving out from there. Without further ado, there is the proof why I think I live in a haunted house!
This was one of the first things that made me question whether there are some spirits in my house. The first few times it happened I was always terrified that somebody came to murder me, but now I know there is no human in front of my house. This sound is very specific and impossible to mistake for anything else. It is as though somebody is waking to my front door (the footsteps are clear as day), and sometimes they try to turn the key, but they do it only once (to open the door you have to turn the key twice).
I remember when I was sick and was chilling in my living room, so close to the front door, I heard those sounds and I was sure my mum came home to check on me. But when I didn’t hear the door open I want to check on her but when no one was near the door I looked out the window to see if maybe she went back to her car. The driveway was empty, there was nobody trying to open the door. After that happened a few more times and other things occurred as well I realised I might be living in a haunted house.
There have been at least two separate occasions when I walked into my room and my books were on the ground or on my bed after supposedly ‘falling off on their own’. I do have a lot of them, so there is a slight chance that I put them in the wrong way I caused them to fall. However, one of the things that scared the crap out of me happened just this summer. I was home alone, my parents were abroad so I had the house to myself.
I fell asleep cuddled with my dog on the sofa downstairs when I loud bang upstairs woke us up. My dog started barking which scared me even more. I put on a brave face and went to see. I found a can of hairspray in the middle of the bathroom floor. It fell off the highest shelve, where all the crap no one ever uses is. Nobody touched anything up there for weeks, months even. That’s how I knew it was impossible for anyone to trigger it to fall on its own.
It is said that animals know best if you’re truly in a haunted house. They can sense and see spirits we are unable to acknowledge. This is why I freaked out when one day I was chilling with my dog in the living room and she suddenly started barking and jumped on the ground. First I thought it’s probably some cat outside or a bird, but she went to the library and focused all her attention on a book shelve. It’s impossible for her to be growling on something behind it because the room next door was empty and the outside of the house was in a completely different direction.
This was probably one of the scariest experiences I had in my house. My bed has this wooden frame and when you first walk in my room you see it and can put stuff on it. When I’m on my laptop doing something, I’m usually turned away from the door and with headphones on I can’t tell if somebody came into my room.
That’s why my mum, when she can’t get my attention, hits the bed frame, the whole bed shakes and I finally turned around. However, one day, nobody was there and the door was closed. I was 100% sure somebody just hit the frame, so I thought maybe my mum did that as a prank, hit it and immediately closed the door. So I went to find her, she was working on her computer completely unaware. I never freaked out this much in my life before.
No one goes to the attic. To get there you have to open a big heavily flap on the ceiling and unless we absolutely have to, we never go there. One day when I was home alone I heard footsteps there and first thought nothing of it. I thought it’s a fisher because since I live close to the woods they sometimes find a way to get to the house.
However, with time it was getting louder and louder, so I decided to call my mum and ask when she’s coming back home to see if anything is up there. I hate attics so I knew I was not going up there. My mum came back from work an hour later and when she went to see, there was nothing there. Fishers usually make a big mess, but everything was fine.
