How To Stay Hydrated…Because It’s Harder Than You May Think

It is important to pay attention to your body’s hydration levels. And that doesn’t mean coffee or fizzy drinks will keep you hydrated. Surely, we all love a good cup of coffee in the morning, however, that’s not enough when it comes to proper hydration. When the body is dehydrated, that means that a high volume of water has been depleted from the body. In turn, the body will retain water, which will show in different ways. Feeling thirsty is only one of many signs that you may be dehydrated. Below, we will show you how to stay hydrated!

Other equally important signs of dehydration include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue
  • Little or no urine
  • Feeling dizzy
  • Headache
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Darker and more concentrated urine

Water helps to lubricate your joints, remove toxins from the body, maintain a good skin condition, and also cool your body temperature down, especially on those hot 30+ Celsius degree days. Here’s how to stay hydrated, because it is harder than you may think!

Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking plenty of water on a daily basis is necessary in order to maintain a healthy body and mind. Doctors suggest that for proper functioning of the body, a person should drink at least 2 litres or half a gallon of water per day. It is important to mention however, that during intense workouts the body can sweat as much as 2.5 litres per hour! Therefore, make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated.

Sports Drinks

Another way to maintain your hydration is to drink sports drinks such as Gatorade, All sports drinks replace fluids and electrolytes such as potassium, sodium, and magnesium. Moreover, if you’re a professional athlete or your workout regime involves high-intensity training, make sure that you drink before and after your workout, but also every 15-20 minutes during the process in order to keep your energy going.

Eat Fruits

Eating fruits will not only help you stay hydrated during hot summer days, but also prevents diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Apples, plums, mangoes and peaches are examples of fruits rich in vitamins that will keep your body healthy and in shape.

Get Creative with Green Smoothies

If you would rather prefer to drink your vegetables, it’s time to splurge on that juice blender! Here’s an idea to begin with: throw in one cucumber with a handful of spinach, a cup of orange, a cup of lime juice, and you’re ready to have a truly energized day!  The great thing about making smoothies is that you can experiment and get creative when it comes to the ingredients.
