How To Make Your Own Lip Gloss…That Actually Looks Good

Glossy lips are all the rage right now and kind of bring me back to when I first experimented with makeup. We have rounded up a list of how to make your own lip gloss right at home. Gorgeous, glossy lips in minutes? We’ve got you with a simple DIY manual, you’ll be glossing up in no time! You’ll have such a fun time making your own colours and flavours with this simple recipe!

Step 1: Let’s get started with some petroleum jelly, we all have some in the cupboard somewhere don’t we?

Using your petroleum jelly, spoon some into a bowl (but make sure it’s microwave safe) Use as much jelly as you want, make some for you, your friends, your mum, everyone! This is the necessary step in how to make your own lip gloss in order to create the gloss base.

Step 2: Melting the jelly in the microwave (remember a microwaveable safe bowl!)

Pop the bowl in the microwave and leave it on for 20 seconds on the high setting (depending on what kind of microwave you have) Take it out and give it a stir. Still clumpy? Pop it back in for a little longer. You ideally want it runny and smooth.

Step 3: Here’s the fun part! We love flavours and colours and anything that makes this lip gloss fun.

Add any scent or flavour of your choice. A few drops of an essential oil or extract. How about rose, cinnamon, maybe even a plain vanilla, whatever tickles your fancy!

Step 4: Adding a spoonful of honey makes it all the sweeter.

Adding honey gives the gloss its shine and makes it taste delicious. Honey is both antibacterial and has moisturizing properties, it also does a fab job of conditioning the lips and stops them from drying out. Hooray! (You can skip this step if you’re not the biggest fan of honey as there’ll still be a shine!)

Step 5: Mix, mix, mix it up!

Using a spoon mix all the ingredients together until they’re smooth. If you want a coloured gloss then now is the time to add a little food colouring of the colour of your choice. This is one of the steps in how to make your own lips gloss that you can skip if you don’t want any colour in your new gloss.

Step 6: Pour it into a cute little container and there you go!

Pour it into an old container or a new one and let it set. Set it at room temperature or in the fridge to cool down. It needs to all be solid so don’t use it when it’s runny! It stays perfectly soft so it’s easy to apply with your finger or a little brush.
