For those days when you just can’t be bothered but don’t want to face the world in just sweatpants and a messy bun, here are the top tips on how to look more put together without really trying.
If you can’t be bothered of course there’s nothing wrong with going bare-faced, but if you want to put on some makeup that will take the least amount of effort, some concealer under the eyes and on any spots plus some mascara will definitely do the trick. You can also fill in your brows if that’s a staple part of your makeup routine, but you can definitely skip the full face of foundation and contour.
A great staple piece of your wardrobe should be an easy day dress that you can just chuck on and go, this will make it look like you’ve put way more effort in than you actually have because there’s something a little more formal about a dress yet it takes zero planning and effort. Pair your dress with a pair of chunky trainers if you want to dress it down a little bit or put on some strappy shoes to look even more put together.
A blazer is a great way to turn a casual outfit into something slightly chicer and more work appropriate. You can throw this over pretty much anything whether it be jeans and a t-shirt or a nice dress, it will take your outfit from casual to sophisticated.
If you want to make yourself look more put together adding a few pieces of jewellery here and there will really add to your look. A good watch will always do the trick paired with a necklace and some earrings will instantly make you look ten times more fashionable than you did before and it takes about two minutes in the morning to put on.
When your outfits looking a bit drab and you’re not feeling very confident in your look adding even a small heel will make you look like you’ve put in way more effort than you actually have. It’s always a good idea to invest in a comfortable pair of heels for when you want to spruce up your outfit but still want to be practical.
Spraying some perfume will immediately give you that confidence boost you need if you’re feeling a bit drab. Plus although this sounds a bit strange, I find for some reason there’s nothing better than someone complimenting you on how good you smell. If you’re looking for a good perfume some of my favourites include Chloe, Prada Candy, Marc Jacobs Daisy & Chance by Chanel.
This is a great way to up your look and to make you feel more confident. Find a colour that suits your outfit. If you’re wearing dark tones try a bright red or pink whereas if you’re wearing lighter tones a dark vampy lipstick will really pop with your look for the day. Some great lipsticks I’d recommend are Lolita II by Kat Von D, Velvet Teddy by Mac and Topshops’s matte lipstick in red!
Another quick makeup tip is to apply highlighter if you want to add a pop of shimmer to your look and make you stand out a bit more than usual. You can apply highlighter basically anywhere you want but I’d recommend on your cheekbones, tip of your nose, browbone and collarbones if you’re wearing a top that shows your clavicle. My favourite highlighter to use is actually an eyeshadow from Sephora in the shade ‘Satin corset’ if you don’t have a highlighter you can easily use eyeshadow to achieve this look, just look for a shimmery warm pink and silver-tone that’ll nicely blend into your skin.
One thing I love about winter is how easy it is to put together outfits just by investing in a nice coat that will go with pretty much everything. Adding a pretty coat on top of any outfit will instantly make you look way chicer and more put together while keeping you warm and cosy! There are endless designs of coats so go for something that you really love and can see yourself wearing all season.
As long as it goes with your jeans and a black pair of leggings (or any other wardrobe staple you consistently wear) you can opt for anything. Some great and cheap places to get high-quality winter coats from stores such as Bershka, Pretty Little Thing, Topshop, Zara, Missguided, Stradivarius and Mango.
A great way to add dimension to an outfit is to play around with different textured items. Try something you don’t usually go for like a satin material or corduroy and pair it with a staple piece that you’re comfortable in. This is a great way to make your outfit just a lot more interesting than the basic jeans and a t-shirt option that you might go for every other day.
You can even pair items like a lacy bodysuit on top of a white or black t-shirt to create a casual yet sophisticated lool, finishing it off by tucking into a pair of jeans and wearing either trainers or heels on the feet. This combination of different textures and layering will give you a great and simple look for the day.
Simple as it sounds this will really boost your confidence and make you look a thousand times more put together because at the end of the day it’s not really about what you wear it’s about wearing it with confidence.
