Now, I have been fashion obsessed for as long as I can remember. Since my first copy of Vogue, the first episode of Gossip Girl I watched, I’ve spent hours dreaming up the chic and glamorous outfits I would wear as I trotted around a University campus. But the reality of staring into your doom wardrobe in the morning is very different from the glamorous vision I had created of myself. Normally it takes an immense amount of brain power to plan an outfit that isn’t sweatpants.
So how do you make the most of your dorm wardrobe?
And by make the most, I mean, have the most versatile, cutest outfits on hand, for any occasion.
There are some things that are worth investing in, and a handbag is an essential part of every girls dorm wardrobe. One that you can carry all day, won’t break under the weight of all your books or laptop.
Coats need to be versatile, and while statement coats can be great to add a bit of flare to an outfit, I think having a few simple coats on hand to really tie together an outfit, is one of the best ways to make the most out of your dorm wardrobe.
Slip skirts have been everywhere this season, which is a trend that I am so on board with, they’re comfy and incredibly flattering. Everyone needs a few skirts in their style repertoire, and they’re a great way to make the most out of your dorm wardrobe, as they work for library days and bar crawl nights.
Hello, fast fashion anyone? Rather than jumping on with each and every trend that passes by, purchase at least a few basics. Simple colours and simple but flattering cuts that you can use to chuck together an outfit without thinking about it. This is a great way to make the most of your dorm wardrobe, because you end up with outfits that you won’t look back and regret, and items of clothing that you can re-wear. Sometimes simplicity is the key to the best outfit.
Cheap denim rips, fades, and is generally less flattering. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking ‘oh I’ll just grab a pair of cheap jeans’, but you end up spending the same amount of money and having pair after pair of jeans, that you just won’t wear. Spend a little extra, and you’ll get more wear out of them. Better for the purse strings and better for the planet.
Jeans are a staple, that goes without saying. But one of the best ways to make the most out of your dorm wardrobe is to have things other than jeans. Whether that’s flares, a wide leg, or combat trousers, a change in pants equals a change of pace.
Fair enough, it’s a classic, but at the end of the day, it’s just kind of boring. Switch up your day tonight look with some flares or wide-cut trousers and a few skirts, or else you risk looking like you’ve stumbled out of a Primark ad.
So there you have it, easy ways to revamp your dorm wardrobe and make the most out of it. Essential pieces like these add a little dimension to the day to day campus wardrobe. These are all simple, but chic ways to change it up a little bit, and stay on trend while maintaining an overall fashionable look.
