How To Conceal Acne Using As Little Product As Possible

Acne is just the absolute worse, but unfortunately it’s a problem we all have to deal with at some point in our lives. Whether you get recurring acne or the one-off spot during your time of the month, it’s helpful to know how to cover these pesky pimples up. But, it’s also important to let your skin breathe and heal, so here are some tips on how to conceal acne using as little product as possible. That way, you’ll prevent your makeup from looking cakey and give your skin an overall healthy appearance.

1. Make sure to moisturise before applying makeup

One of the best ways how to conceal acne is to moisturise your skin. Pimples can often get crusty and flaky as many people’s first response to a spot is to dry it out with spot treatments. To make sure any makeup you use to cover your acne goes on smoothly, make sure to moisturise your skin really well, no matter your skin type. This will create a smooth canvas and will also help soothe your skin.

2. Don’t skip primer

Primer will be super important in helping your makeup stick throughout the day. Not only that, but it will create a smooth base and blur out imperfections so that you won’t have to use as much foundation or concealer on your acne.

Suggestions: BareMinerals Prime Time, Benefit The Porefessional

3. Go for a lightweight foundation

Many people’s first instinct  is to pile on full-coverage foundation. But this can actually end up looking cakey and make your face look worse. Instead, go for a light foundation that will simply even out your skin tone. Then you can go in afterwards and spot-conceal any areas that are still red or obviously bumpy.

Suggestions: BECCA Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation, Bobbi Brown BB Cream

4. Correct and conceal

After applying your lightweight foundation, go back over areas where your imperfections are still very obvious. For red zits, it can help to use a green colour-corrector to neutralise the area and make it easier to cover with concealer. It’s best to use a light hand with concealer, blend it out, and then layer over it again if you need any coverage. For large bumps, use a small eyeshadow brush to blend concealer around the zit to hide the shadow, but don’t blend out the concealer directly on top of the zit to maintain full coverage.

5. Set with a lightweight powder

Make sure to mattify the areas where your acne is to remove shine and oil as well as detract attention from those areas. This will also prevent your concealer from sliding off your face throughout the day. Remember to opt for a lightweight powder to avoid looking cakey and allow your skin to breathe.
