Honey – we all know about the tasty golden sweet stuff. It’s perfect in hot drinks, in cakes, on pancakes, but did you know it can also be an important part of keeping you looking your best? Here’s why the honey beauty routine is a must-have.
Whether your skin is irritated due to dryness or you have been sunburned, honey is an excellent way to soothe this irritation and help repair the skin. Honey is the beauty routine that is perfect as a spot treatment on irritated areas, simply take a little honey and dab it on the affected area. For and extra moisturising boost, mix one tablespoon of honey with a tablespoon of aloe vera gel together and simply smear it onto where you are irritated. You can even use it on burns, too – after you have run the burn under cold water for at least 10 minutes, rub honey over the affected area to help the healing process.
Honey is actually naturally antibacterial, and since it is bacteria that causes acne, using honey face creams or face masks can help prevent and heal acne. Honey is also clarifying, meaning that it opens up your pores and makes them easy to unclog. To use honey to clear up your skin, either make your own face mask out of honey by simply spreading one teaspoon of honey on clean, dry skin, letting it sit of 15-20 minutes, then rinsing, use a honey spot treatment on your problem areas for 10-15 minutes before rinsing, or make a face scrub by two tablespoons of honey and one tablespoon of baking soda together. Gently scrub your face with this mixture, then rinse well. Honey is a great natural way to get rid of spots, and it is also very gentle unlike some of the harsh cleansers on the market that are for acne-prone skin.
Honey can boost hydration in the first few layers of your skin, meaning that it can give you beautiful, glowing, baby-smooth skin. This beauty routine can be used everywhere – even to make your cuticles look better. To soften up your cuticles, mix one teaspoon of honey with one teaspoon of coconut oil, and one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Rub this mixture over each of your cuticles, leave for ten minutes and then rinse off and marvel at how great your nail beds look!
Honey is absolutely full of anti-oxidants, which means it can help slow down the aging process. In addition, honey’s natural super moisturising properties means that it completely hydrates the top few layers of skin, meaning that wrinkles look a lot less prominent, and the extra moisture helps improve wrinkles as well. To make an anti-aging mask, mix together a tablespoon of honey and a tablespoon of yoghurt. Apply to the face for 30 minutes, massaging the face if you wish (massaging your face can help improve blood circulation and tighten skin).
Honey isn’t just good for your nails and skin, it is also super good for your hair too. The enzymes and nutrients in honey will give your hair a lovely, healthy-looking shine without weighing it down. To make a super-moisturising hair mask that will make your hair look amazing, mix one tablespoon of honey with two tablespoons of coconut oil. Put this on your hair, let it sit for 20 minutes then rinse out. You can also mix a teaspoon of honey with a 50p-sized amount of shampoo to make a shine and moisture boosting shampoo. Perfect hair, easily.
