Here’s How to Throw A Party For Your 21st Birthday

Congratulations! You’ve made it, you’re almost 21! You can now legally drink all over the world and that requires a celebration. However, just having your family round for cake or going to your regular club with your mates is not going to cut it this year! This should be one to well and truly remember, so here are some tips for how to throw a party!

PARTY!!!

The most basic choice is that you could hire a function room. This does vary on price depending on how many you need to fit, whether you want food, the price of a DJ but it’s worth it. This is the only way to get your 90-year-old Grandma and your 20-year-old mates at the same event and get them all to have fun in the process. It’s the best way to spend time with all the people you love most, and when it winds down you and your friends get to disappear to the club next door.

Pub Crawl in a Neighbouring City.

The easiest and potentially cheapest option on the list is to just change the scenery. Depending on how close you are to your hometown/unidigs, you could quite easily, and cheaply, taxi your group to somewhere that’ll give you something new to do. However, make sure you thoroughly research where you are going, because you do not want to get there and have a shit time because you chose the wrong type of clubs for your group!

Kids Birthday Party!

Hear me out on this one… Don’t you miss being able to go on the bouncy castle without your baby cousin present? Isn’t it unfair that it’s seen as “inappropriate” for you to want to play on the indoor jungle gym at wacky warehouse? Well now there are a lot of places across the UK that have addressed this issue and now do adult only nights, some of which include alcohol! Playzone Swansea and Inflate nation in Manchester are just two of these zones that are worth the trip. These nights happen all over the country, it just needs a little research. This is my favourite option because you can definitely play into the kids theme and have party bags with shots, condoms and playing cards in them, as well as having a princess birthday cake!

Girls Weekend Away.

Definitely the most expensive option on our list, this may need to be done as a joint trip with all your besties, do it midway through all of your birthdays. You can book a city break somewhere in the UK, maybe London or Manchester, or you could go well and truly all out with Portugal or Magaluf. The skies the limit on this one, well actually maybe the bank balance is the limit, but it’s still a great choice for a massive celebration.

Pick a date!

Once you’ve planned what you’re going to do you will need to decide when you are going to do it. Your actual birthday is ideal but not necessarily practical. Whether it’s because it’s midweek, or because it’s mid exam season a lot of people can’t make certain dates. It might be best to defer celebrations by a few days or a week in order to have as many people as you want able to attend.

Lock down that guest list.

The guest list is your next priority. You have to decide on who the event is appropriate for. You can’t really bring your little cousins on a pub crawl, and your uni friends might not have anywhere to stay in your home town. Check with your parents to make sure you aren’t missing obscure family members, and be sure you aren’t inviting the embarrassing acquaintance that ends up passed out within an hour, you don’t need that on your big night.

Invite everyone!

Send out your invites, most people you can just invite via Facebook events so that makes RSVP tracking easy. However, older family members will not have a clue. Even if they have Facebook, it’s better to give them a call or a paper invite just to be sure. This is how to throw a party 101, you NEED guests after all!

Pick out your outfit.

Make sure you have a bomb-ass outfit. Take your best girls shopping a few weeks before and get yourself some new clothes as a present to yourself. It’s your birthday, all eyes should be on you. Get a tiara, six-inch heels and a massive badge announcing your new age. Go all out for this one.

Do YOU.

Finally make sure you are doing what you really want to do. Don’t let your friends/partner/family influence your choices too much, and make sure you leave yourself time to breathe. Everyone will want your attention but if you aren’t careful time will get away from you and you won’t have enjoyed your own party. I’d say you don’t know how to throw a party for yourself if you don’t do what you want!
