Here’s A List Of Books To Read Before Summer Hits

Reading books is not for everyone. I love reading books because I get to use my imagination but my sister hates it because as she says ‘it’s not fun to sit there and look at words’! If you’re a book lover then you get really excited going through book lists! I know the feeling! I also love going to the bookshop and buying the books too. Anyway, before I rumble about books for another 5 minutes, here’s a list of books to read before summer hits.

1. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

I really enjoyed this book. It’s one of the easier books to read with simple text simple and not too many descriptions that make the story longer. It’s about Eleanor, a woman who has isolated herself from everyone but still has an office job and goes to town regularly. She has built this routine around her life in order to not feel lonely but she can’t help it. And then she meets someone! I promise it is not a romance novel.

2. This is going to hurt by Adam Kay

This book has been written by a junior doctor who spends most of his time in the hospital. It’s a funny book about the life of a junior doctor, with a few tearful and scary moments. If you’re looking for a laugh, then read this book!

3. Milk and honey by Rupi Kaur

I was always so against poetry, only because I couldn’t understand the meanings of the text. But these poems are so well written and emotional that you’ll actually like it. I liked it and I hated poetry, so give it a try!

4. The Thirst by Jo Nesbo

Jo Nesbo is the next Dan Brown but in the crime writing world. His crime novels with Harry Hole are so well written, and the story really accurate and well thought of. The stories are so captivating that you will want to read it through the night!

5. Circe by Madeline Miller

I’ll be honest – I haven’t read this book yet BUT I’ve bought it already to read it. I really like fantasy books like Harry Potter and Game of Thrones, books that are based on another imaginative world. In this story, Circe, the daughter of Titan Helios, grows up often feeling isolated and scorned by everyone else. She learns witchcraft after being banished to the island of Aiaia by Zeus. In the end, she has to decide whether she belongs with the gods or with the mortals.

6. Call me by your name by Andre Aciman

This is the story of a 17-year-old adolescent boy and a guest at his parents’ cliff-side mansion on the Italian Riviera. It’s a romance blossoming between these two characters. It’s such a realistic story and so intimate, I loved everything about it!

7. Little fires everywhere by Celeste Ng

I can’t even begin to describe this book without spoiling it. You have to read it though! It’s about Mia, a single mother with a secret past, and Elena, who likes playing by the rules. What happens when they are on opposite sides?

8. Friend Request by Laura Marshall

This is one of those easy to read mystery books. The twist, of course, comes at the end and everything is explained then. It’s a great book for light reading!

9. The Island by Victoria Hislop

This book is at the top of my all-time favourite books to read. The story in this book starts four generations back of a Cretan family that is stricken by an unfortunate event. It is based on Spinalonga and Plaka, the village which was Greece’s leper colony.  If you like historical novels then you will really enjoy this. I would recommend anyone to read this as the historical facts behind it are so accurate and so are the descriptions of the lives of people with leprosy.

10. Wonder by R.J. Palacio

Wonder is a children’s book but anyone can read it. It’s about Auggie, a boy with severe face abnormalities. You can imagine how everyone treats him. Till fifth grade, he’s been home-schooled till his parents send him to a school. So what you’ll be reading is his perspective on his life when he goes to school, how others treat him and slowly reading about others people’s perspectives.
