If you’re one of the unfortunate few that suffers from having a sweet tooth, you’ll know how difficult it is to satisfy it in a healthy way that doesn’t involve sweets and chocolate. We’ve come up with 10 healthier alternatives that will give you that sweet kick when you need it most. Check out these healthy ways to satisfy a sweet craving!
1) Frozen Banana And Grapes
Frozen fruit is a great way to replicate a sweet treat and to get in your 5-a-day! Simply cut and peel and pop into your freezer. Grapes are particularly good as they are small like candy- you wouldn’t know the difference! This is one of the easiest healthy ways to satisfy a sweet craving.
2)Greek Yoghurt
Also perfect for a healthy breakfast, greek yoghurt topped with berries is a sweet sensation! And if you need that extra sweetness, add honey – lots and lots of honey! It tastes just like syrup, but doesn’t nearly contain as much sugar!
3) Cookies
We all need cookies at some point in our busy weeks and they don’t have to contain lots of sugar to taste good! Have a go at some 3 ingredient cookies: Mix together 1 mashed banana, half a cup of quick cooking oats and a handful of raisins (or dark chocolate chips!) and bake for 15 minutes on 350 degrees.
4)Smoothie
Another great way to reach your 5-a-day whilst attending to your sweet craving. Choose all of your favourite sweet fruits (make sure you choose lots of berries as they will make your smoothie super sweet) and blend together with some ice and a plant based milk. This is also a great idea for on the go snacking.
5)Sorbet
Don’t be fooled, many supermarket bought sorbets can contain lots of sugar, so that’s why you should jump into the kitchen and make your own! Similar to the smoothie, choose your favourite fruits and berries, then freeze over night, before blending and pouring into an air-tight container and freezing. Add honey to sweeten your sorbet!
6) No Bake Almond Butter Rice Crispy Treats
Mix 1/2 cup of melted almond butter, 1/2 cup brown rice syrup, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 4 cups of brown rice crisps in a bowl. Line a cake pan with greaseproof paper and fill with mixture – press the mixture so it is compact. Freeze for an hour then slice up and serve. SO delicious!
7)Yoghurt Dipped Fruit
This is something to spruce up fruit if you’re feeling a little bored. Buy yourself some low sugar yoghurt, chop up your bananas and strawberries and dip them into the yoghurt and place into the freezer. You could also use dark chocolate in the same way, but the yoghurt gives you more of sweet kick in a healthier way!
8) Raspberry Chia Pudding
This recipe tastes and looks just like a dessert! All you need to do is blend raspberries, non dairy milk and a little honey together and pour into an airtight container. Add chia seeds until they are still well covered by the mixture, conceal and put into the fridge over night. There you have it- pudding with no added sugar! Perfect for snacking or for a healthy breakfast. This is one of the healthy ways to satisfy a sweet craving that is perfect for breakfast!
9) Banana Cinnamon Muffin Mug Cakes
What more could you want than a healthy muffin recipe? Firstly, mix together the white from 1 egg and 2 tablespoons of honey in a greased mug. Then, add 1/4 cup of oat flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix well and add 1 mashed banana. Microwave for 90 seconds and you have a perfect muffin in a mug!
10) Dark Chocolate
If worst comes to worst, you just can’t deal with frozen fruit anymore and you NEED a chocolate fix, then opt for dark chocolate. Bars with over 70% cacao lack the sugar and fat of milk chocolate bars and contain lots of anti oxidants! You can even incorporate dark chocolate into many of the ideas above! This is one of our favourite healthy ways to satisfy a sweet craving.
