14 Healthy Snacks To Munch On This Summer
When trying to stick to a healthy eating plan for the summer, we can get a bit hungry between the kale salads and lack of chocolate. These healthy snacks are light, easy to put together and will surprise you with how good they are whilst still staying low in calories!
1. Banana And Dark Chocolate Fondue
These healthy snacks will turn your fondue into fun-doe. Sorry. I tried. Melt a chunk of dark chocolate in a heat-proof bowl and dip slices of banana into the melty goodness. Couldn’t get easier if you tried.
2. Chewy Honey Granola Bars
You can buy these from the shops, but they tend to be loaded with sugars and artificial flavourings or cost more than necessary. Make your own for a more money-conscious munch. Toast 3 cups of oats and then combine with a tiny bit of butter to make it all stick, and honey for taste. Layer the mixture onto a pan and cut into bars, and there you have a ridiculously easy sweet treat for summer.
3. Personalised Nut And Seed Mix
The overly salted mixes you get with your groceries tend to include a few gross nuts you don’t like, or even some you might be allergic to, as I have experienced many-a-time. Make your own healthy munch with your fave nuts and seeds, like walnuts, peanuts, hazelnuts and pumpkin seeds, chucked into a reusable zip-lock bag. You can top off your salads with the mix too! Bonus.
4. Colourful Veggie Crudites
Extremely easy to take with you, veggie crudites are easy healthy snacks to make and easy to store. Buy some peppers, cucumbers, carrots and celery and cut them into dippable sticks, and eat them by themselves, or with your fave healthy dip, like humous!
5. Apple And Peanut Butter- Crunchy Or Smooth
If you’re like me, your eyes will light up just at the thought of peanut butter. Make a fantastic pairing, and slice up some apple and peanut butter each slice. Great on texture, great on taste.
6. Chicken And Spinach Bites
These are a great way to use up leftover chicken! Shred it off the bone, and wrap some between spinach leaves, and you have a yummy, carb-less snack for between meals.
7. Batches Of Bruschetta
You can make this with or without mozzarella, depending on how healthy you’re feeling. Layer bruschetta with cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, drops of olive oil and freshly ground pepper, and you’ll feel like you’re snacking on the Meditteranean.
8. Frozen Yoghurt And Berry Pots
You can turn these healthy snacks into a dessert too, if the portion is big enough! Blend frozen berries with yoghurt and a bit of honey for extra sweetness, and you’ll have a refreshing fruit mix.
9. Poppin’ Corn
Not just one for the cinema! Heat coconut oil in a pot, or any edible oil of your choice, and add corn kernels until they pop. Add some healthy flavourings, like some garlic, or a sprinkle of sea salt, to give your healthy corn that extra kick.
10. Dates
Just munch on some dates. Especially if you have loads left over from Ramadan! I feel like everyone forgets how yummy and filling dates are?
11. Delicious Salsa Dip For The Diet
A dip for your crudites, or to slap onto some focaccia, or even sneakily eat by itself from a paper bag. No judgement. Chop up garlic cloves, fresh basil, red onion and ripe tomatoes, and combine all with some olive oil, ground black pepper and a teeny pinch of salt, and there you have a fresh, homemade dip without the loaded sugars.
12. Mini Banana Pancakes
Great for breakfast and even better as healthy snacks. Make a standard American pancake mixture, without sugar, and stir in mashed bananas. Full of fibre and ideal for a processed-sugar cleanse, and you can add on your favourite toppings.
13. Squash Fritters
This is such a good one for getting your veggies in. Mix together 2 eggs, 2 cups of flour and shredded veg, like butternut squash, carrots, pumpkin or courgettes, make them into patties and fry them in a bit of oil. They might taste indulgent because everything tastes better fried, let’s be honest, but they’re actually good for you!
14. Avocado And Salmon Sliders
One for days you’re feeling fancy. Layer salmon, smoked or otherwise, with slices of avocado you have a snack packed with healthy fats and oils.
