Working from home has so many benefits, it gives you time flexibility to schedule your day according to your needs and in a way you get to save money from public transportation.
It can be tricky at times though if you do not have in mind essential habits to make things work. Sometimes you can get in your “comfy zone” and that’s exactly where the trouble starts.
Here are some of the most important habits that you need to write down and follow in order to keep your job.
You must have a working area in your house if you are working from home. That area will be your sanctuary, a distraction-free space away from the TV or even your bed. See, if you work from your bed you might either get lazy or fall asleep and we don’t want that cause you’ve got too many tasks pending.
It doesn’t have to occupy a whole room, it can even be a little corner in the living room with the purpose of focusing. This office space will have a lovely desk and the essential “office” elements that you need to get going.
I think everyone who has dreamt of working from home pictures themselves waking up in their Pj’s and going straight to get the work done!
The problem is that being in your Pj’s won’t really get you anywhere else but your bed. It’s just too comfortable and it keeps you thinking that you are not actually working. You need to get a working mindset and that can surely happen if you dress as if you were going to a business meeting.
It doesn’t have to always be a business attire but professional looking clothing will do the trick just fine and set you in a working mood.
When working from home you could be tempted to stay until late in bed and waking up at noon to get things done. Sadly, in the real world things get easily solved when you start early in the morning as other businesses, and people do have a 9 to 5 schedule.
You should set up an alarm to wake up early every day; your day will be more productive and you will still have the rest of the day for yourself. Remember… you can sleep when you’re dead!
Imagine you are at an actual office and you share it with your boss. You wouldn’t be texting or face-timing your friends and family, would you?
It works the same even if you are working from home. We know how much you love them but one text a day, while you work, is more than enough (unless is an emergency). You can get easily lost in WhatsApp or Facebook and by the time you’ve realized, you have spent half of the day.
Working for home is challenging and everything flows better when you create a routine to follow. When you have a routine, even the smallest one, your whole day is structured.
You can wake up at 8am, get ready and dressed “for work”, make some coffee along with a nice breakfast and sit in your desk to have it. Start by reading your e-mails and responding to pending messages.
By doing this each morning is easier to create a habit that you will get used to and take advantage of the benefits of working from home.
Many people dream of working from home and you get to live that dream. Just make sure to have these tips written down and follow them religiously in order to make the best out of it.
