Aromatherapy is fantastic, but knowing which oils go together and what effects they can have can be a little intimidating for beginners. Here are 5 great essential oil blends for you to try!

1. Geranium + neroli + eucalyptus

ratio: 2:2:2

what it does: lifts mood, boosts vitality

when to use: while you’re having a bath

This soothing and restorative blend would not smell out of place at a luxury spa!

2. Lavender + clary sage + peppermint

ratio: 2:2:1

what it does: relieves anxiety, promotes healing and helps you sleep

when to use: at the end of a long hard day

This blend has a clean, herbal smell that will refresh and soothe you.

3. Peppermint + lemon + ginger + eucalyptus

ratio: 1:2:2:1

what it does: cleanses and energises

when to use: in the morning

This zingy blend will invigorate you and provide a brilliant start to your day.

4. Ylang ylang + patchouli + jasmine + rose

ratio: 2:2:1:1

Note: the amounts are in ratios rather than drops to make things easier — if you’re using a tea light incense burner, a couple of drops of each oil will be fine. On the other hand, if you have a large sonic diffuser, you might have to use as many as 5 drops per oil for a good effect.
